Hello. I love mathematics, students of mathematics, and am enthusiastic about tutoring. I have a BA in Mathematics from UC Irvine, and a California Math Secondary teaching Credential. I have recently retired from LAUSD, where I taught high school math for 30 years that included 10 years in a gifted magnet program. I taught basic math, pre-algebra, geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus, trigonometry, AP calculus, both AB and BC levels, basic probability and statistics, and some integrated ma... [more]

I have taught classes in ACT math and have helped my students achieve their academic goals. Similar to SAT Math, my strategy for students is about thoroughly re-familiarizing students with all the math they learned over the past several years. Typically, we will go through an ACT book of problems and do several exercises together, inspiring dozens of those "Oh yeah!" moments. After each lesson, the student gets stronger in the material, and can feel it. I have been happily tutoring for over 15 years, and so I have learned to relate mathematical concepts to a wide variety of students. As f [more]

I have tutored a myriad of students in standardized tests (SAT/SAT II, GRE, ACT), with an emphasis on the mathematics and science portions. All of my students have improved as a result, and several were accepted into their choice schools as a result. Hi there! I am a computational physicist at USC, doing research in quantum optics and solid-state physics. I teach all levels of mathematics, as well as introductory and college-level physics and various programming languages, including Fortran, Mathematica, and MATLAB. I am supremely qualified to tutor ACT Math. I have been tutoring ACT Math for over 5 years. I love teaching and tutoring for standardized exams as they are as much based on style and technique as knowledge and understanding. Passing on these secrets of great test-taking is a real joy! In addition to my love of teaching mathematics, I am skilled in test-taking myself. I was designated a National Merit Scholar as well as National AP Scholar as a high school senior. I received a perfect score of 800 on the SAT II Math exam, a 770 on the SAT I Math Exam, and perfect score of 5 on the AP Calculus [more]

Having received perfect scores on the SAT math and SAT II math (ACT wasn't around when I was in HS), I have a thorough understanding of the material. I have over 10 years tutoring experience and have an excellent track record of student score improvement. There is a plethora of experienced tutors available to you, but here are some of the things that set me apart: *Perfect SAT/SAT II scores - In addition to a 2400 SAT, I have scored an 800 GRE and a 780 GMAT. *Extraordinary track record - The vast majority of my students see unusually high results. My students frequently go from producing C [more]

As a certified teacher, I have helped many students increase their scores on ACT Math. I believe pacing and problem solving are the big challenges on the ACT math section. Pacing is tricky because you have to try to as many questions as possible without losing accuracy. In addition, you have to be able to quickly identify ways to solve problems. This is why studying specifically for ACT math is so important, since it requires you to work faster and more strategically than you have to in math class. [more]

I have taken a variety of math, English and science tests throughout school, in the military, in college, and to become a teacher. The tests have ranged from the SAT, CEEB, and CBEST, and I have developed methods and strategies to help my students become more successful while taking their tests. As an LAUSD high school math teacher, I taught algebra, and as an LAUSD high school science teacher I taught algebra, geometry and trigonometry to my students to help them do our activities, labs, problems, and science projects in our physics, chemistry, earth science, and biology classes.
