In addition to teaching in private schools, I have worked as a math tutor for over forty years, with students ranging from third grade to adult. I have also run the tutoring program for a private school, been a math consultant for a public alternative school, and worked at an educational clinic for children with learning disabilities. I have also volunteered at my daughter's elementary school, and coached their teams for the local Math Super Bowl for the past four years. In high school, I par... [more]

I attended UCSB, with studies abroad in Alaska, New Zealand, and India, and received a degree in Geography. I began tutoring math in high school and have always enjoyed teaching and working with students. As a substitute teacher, I worked at over 20 schools in the Bay Area, private and public, and saw the need for more individualized education. I led an after-school math program at Oakland Tech and began my own tutoring business in the East Bay which was successfully built on referrals. D... [more]

I'm a rising second year at the University of California, Santa Barbara majoring in physics. My main experience in tutoring comes from an organization called Citizen Schools, where I worked with low-income students after school to help them reach their full academic potential. As a relatively recent high school graduate, I understand the struggles that students may face and am better poised to help them navigate what can potentially be a turbulent time. Working with other people on proble... [more]

My name is Andy, and I love math. I hold a BS and MS from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In high school, I competed in various prestigious math and science competitions. I have gotten 800s in SAT math I and II. Learn from the best! I am patient and have great ability to make difficult concepts easy to understand. Over the years I have developed various techniques on how to solve problems very quickly and accurately. When looking at a problem, there may be multiple ways to solve... [more]

The ACT Math section covers a wider variety of math concepts than are tested in the SAT Math section. However, the way the questions are asked tends to be a bit more straightforward on the ACT. The number of different math concepts that are tested in the ACT Math section is limited, yet there are almost unlimited ways that the test can ask students questions about those concepts. The important concepts in ACT are arithmetic, algebra, and geometry that comprise the test questions. Another important fact is how to translate a word question to a mathematical equation. I help students to refresh [more]

I am very passionate about teaching, and I've wanted to be a teacher since my childhood. My first priority is students' success, whatever it takes. I am available to teach students in 4th grade through 12th grade various math subjects, such as algebra/trigonometry/geometry/calculus etc. I can teach some science subjects, such as chemistry/physics until 10th grade. I can help students (at any level) who have interest in learning computer basics and programs (beginner through advance) and devel... [more]

My approach to tutoring is informed by my past academic struggles. My test scores and GPA were great and got me into my dream school, but as a "first generation" college student, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I know the frustration and self-defeating strategies--like procrastination--that students often develop and I am especially sensitive to supporting my students. Sometimes that means being firm, but more often it means celebrating the small successes. I graduated from P... [more]

I love teaching and have been doing it for over 10 years. Mentored by the founder of Mathnasium, I have learned the ins and outs of how to effectively make math make sense to students and drastically improve their confidence. While running 11 Mathnasium company-owned centers, I have personally overseen and contributed to the educational growth of over one thousand students! Moreover, I worked in the curriculum department at Mathnasium headquarters, so I am very comfortable with and informed a... [more]
