My minor from Texas A&M University (1991, Cum Laude) is in Accounting. I love working with numbers! As Valedictorian of my high school class, I excelled in math, receiving A's in every math class through Calculus. I have tutored in ACT Math, as well as arithmetic through Algebra 1, and I have helped students with strategies to score more points. You might point out to me that the ACT has lots of Geometry, but that's OK, because, though I detest proofs, I love working with angles and triangles and other shapes to solve problems. Since the ACT Math section requires solving 60 problems in 60 m [more]

The Math section of the ACT Exam is extremely complex, as it involves material from multiple different math subject areas. I focus my ACT Math lessons on two things: 1) completing the problems on the page and ensuring an understanding of necessary steps to complete for each type of problem. 2) rebuilding essential fundamental skills that make up the problems, ensuring students have all necessary skill sets to execute more complicated problems Developing fundamental and advanced skill sets for execution of the ACT leads to improved test scores, as well as a more comprehensive understanding [more]

The ACT math test requires you to answer 60 questions in 60 minutes or less. To be successful you need both math knowledge and reasoning skills. This can be much easier if you: master a few testing strategies; have the ability to recognize a dozen common types of problems given on every ACT; and are comfortable with basic algebra and geometry concepts. I focus on these three areas in each tutoring session I deliver. I am a former business school professor with a PhD in management science and additional degrees in mathematics and computer science. I provide personal tutoring to students from m [more]

I tutored students for 2 years in Pre-algebra, Algebra I and Geometry while employed with a private tutoring company. I also helped students prepare for the Texas state STAR exam - an exam that challenges students with word problems in the context of algebra, geometry, etc. I believe my past experience with this makes me a good candidate as an ACT math tutor. I love to help students understand the ?language? of math and chemistry, and aim to foster their excitement in the sciences. I obtained my BS in Chemistry at Texas A&M, and subsequently received my MA in Organic Chemistry from Boston [more]

Greetings! I'm happy for the chance to share with you my love of and passion for education. My name is Lisa, or Mrs. M. if you like, and I am a long-time resident of North Texas. I work as a Reading Interventionist for Dallas ISD through a local not-for-profit. Throughout the week, I meet with dozens of 1st-2nd grade students who need extra reading practice and support, both in and after school. Before working with Dallas ISD, I taught English as a Foreign Language in Nepal, and also w... [more]

Dear prospective student, Solving the problems is just half of the objective of a tutoring session. The most important thing is learning how to come from the basic principles (from lectures and notes) to the solution of each problem. With the ability to do that, you can solve similar problems on your quizzes, lab reports, tests, exams (SAT, SAT 2). If you have problems in Biology, General Chemistry, General Physics, Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus I and II, I could be a resource for you. G... [more]

I am a certified 8-12 TX math teacher, and I have taught and tutored for courses that are assessed on the ACT. I have also coached successful math teams on state and national contests, so I continue to stay fresh on multiple levels of high school mathematics. Additionally, I currently write curriculum for Algebra I, II, Geometry, and other grade levels, so I constantly engage in problem solving as a test-taker and as a writer. I have five years of experience as a certified high school mathematics teacher in Texas. During those years, I taught Geometry, Pre-AP Geometry, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculu [more]

For five years, I have successfully tutored in a region where, traditionally, the ACT was the main college admissions test accepted by universities. I have guided many students to improving their scores by significant margins in a relatively short period of time, thereby increasing the likelihood of gaining admission to a college of their choice. I offer clear explanations tailored to the learner. I enjoy demonstrating the process of building the relevant concepts at hand, so that the learner is guided as if by an usher, shedding light to the path ahead through the aisles of a dark auditorium [more]

I have served as a science teacher and tutor for ten years in the DFW metroplex. Over that time, I tutored and taught some of the most gifted minds in the area - my students won multiple UIL scholastic awards and were state competitors on multiple occasions. As the coach of the local Academic Decathlon team, we traveled all the way to the national competition for the first time in two decades at my school. As a teacher, I have served as the science department chair, the lead PreAP Chemistr... [more]
