I'm John, and I do a little bit of everything! I'm currently a medical student at the University of Wisconsin, and I did my undergrad at the University of Minnesota. In between, I did a couple of terms of service with AmeriCorps - first as a math tutor at Pratt Community School in Minneapolis, and later as a math tutor at Memorial High School in Madison. My approach to tutoring is that all students can be successful if they are well understood and if concepts and ideas are communicated clear... [more]

When I took the ACT, I received a 34 overall with a 36 in the math section. I have tutored the ACT math section for 3 years using a program from Sylvan Learning Center. I still have access to this program to use during sessions. My name is Seth. I have loved math every since I was a little kid. It was the subject that always made sense to me and I found fun in the ability to solve problems. This passion that I have is shown in my tutoring style. I try to show how math isn't just a lame subject, but try to show how to be enthusiastic about it. I have tutored almost every subject in math while [more]

The ACT tends to pose a challenge to my students in one of two ways. Either they feel un-prepared in the content, in which case we dive into why Math functions until the feel prepared, or they have a hard time understand word problems. In the case of the latter, we tend to focus on honing in to what the questions are asking as well as what information they are providing. Beyond this, I also work with students on test-taking strategies, helping them feel secure in their preparedness. My love for teaching stems from a long line of teachers, dating all the way back to my grandparents. I've had th [more]

My philosophy can be summed up in one word: simplify. As I see it, my job is to take misunderstood concepts and find strategies and methods that will make them understandable. My goal is for you to spend the fewest amount of dollars in the shortest period of time. If I accomplish that, then I feel I've done my job. I have successfully tutored students from elementary school to college master's programs covering such topics as Fractions, Quadratics, Microbiology, Anatomy, TESOL and Linguistic... [more]

I have been tutoring since I have been in Middle School. It all started out by volunteering a couple hours of week helping with math. More recently I held a position as a Spanish tutor, while occasionally helping with science, math, civics, and history classes as needed. Currently, I am working for the Waut... [more]

I have been trained in ACT preparation tutoring skills including test-taking strategies to maximize scores. As an experienced and patient tutor of physics and of math subjects through calculus and college first year linear algebra and differential equations, my great delight is in seeing the "light bulb" of comprehension in my students' faces. These subjects are not as difficult as they often seem to my students before they meet with me. My concrete illustrations and introductory exercises have been highly successful in getting students on track for academic success and in recognizing their ow [more]
