I am an expert in all topics of math covered on the ACT. As a teacher, I regularly had junior level classes and we would do full ACT review sessions, which the students claimed helped them enormously. I am a former math teacher and an expert in all levels of mathematics through AP Calculus. I have a Master's degree (M.A.T. in Secondary Mathematics) from the University of Louisville. I worked for 11 years teaching high school mathematics to a broad range of students, from "At Risk" students struggling with Algebra 1, to AP Calculus students preparing for studies in college level mathematics. I've helped many students succeed on the ACT Math section. At Harvard, I also studied with Howard Gardner and Jon Ratey, two of the world's most renowned investigators of learning disabilities and learning strategies. I have been tutoring for fifteen years, with particular skillfulness in readying students for the PSAT, SAT, ACT and GRE. I've worked with a wide range of students, from the elementary school level to graduate school level, and am especially proud of having helped many students earn scholarship offers to the high schools and colleges of their choice. I received my academic tra [more]

This is one of my specialties. I'm good at helping students get comfortable with the content areas where they feel a little shaky, because confidence is one of the most important issues in taking the test. But my greatest strength is in helping them learn a half-dozen short-cuts to getting answers quickly and learning which questions to skip the first time through. Finally, there are 8 or 10 things they need to look for throughout the test. When they spot one, it's a sure short-cut to the right answer. I've had students jump from a 19 to a 27 and a 24 to a 30 after 8 or 10 sessions. [more]

On my last taking of the ACT I received a 34 composite score and a 34 in Math. Additionally, I am a math major at Bellarmine University. I can help the student practice his or her math skills so that he or she can effectively travel the gauntlet of ACT math problems quickly and accurately. I just graduated from Bellarmine University Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. During my four years there I have tutored countless students both through Wyzant and independently. My experience is primarily in Mathematics, and I h [more]

I have experience in teaching math from grade school to college level, as well as teaching formal calculus classes at the University level. Teaching is my second biggest passion -- next to science and research! My passion for teaching stems from my love of discovery and learning. I believe that there is an intimate relationship between teaching and learning; there are times when while teaching someone else, I discover something new about the topic like shortcuts or better solutions in math. I also love challenges, and teaching is a challenge in and of itself. I always find it fulfilling to be [more]
