When I took the ACT, I received a 34 overall with a 36 in the math section. I have tutored the ACT math section for 5 years using a program from Sylvan Learning Center. I still have access to this program to use during sessions. My name is Seth. I have loved math every since I was a little kid. It was the subject that always made sense to me and I found fun in the ability to solve problems. This passion that I have is shown in my tutoring style. I try to show how math isn't just a lame subject, but try to show how to be enthusiastic about it. I have tutored almost every subject in math while [more]

I graduated from Oberlin College with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and minors in Mathematics and French. My philosophy with helping students stems from what I found engaging and enlightening in my own education - discussion and exploration of ideas. By framing sessions as a conversation more than a traditional lecture, in my experience students often gain a more complete understanding of, and greater comfort with, concepts than by memorization alone. I also find that, by addressing students... [more]

I have been trained in ACT preparation tutoring skills including test-taking strategies to maximize scores. As an experienced and patient tutor of physics and of math subjects through calculus and college first year linear algebra and differential equations, my great delight is in seeing the "light bulb" of comprehension in my students' faces. These subjects are not as difficult as they often seem to my students before they meet with me. My concrete illustrations and introductory exercises have been highly successful in getting students on track for academic success and in recognizing their ow [more]
