Many students, especially those majoring in the Social Sciences and Humanities, find the Quantitative portion of the ACT daunting, but it doesn't have to be. I have personally worked with many students who have subsequently increased their score on that portion of the ACT as much as 9 points. Let me help you achieve the high score that you desire. My teaching certification includes Mathematics, Spanish, and French. I tutor across a number of disciplines, but take my greatest pleasure in bringing an understanding of mathematics and foreign language to students struggling in those areas. I [more]

I took required Math courses in my Electrical Engineering curriculum, such as: Calculus I, II, & III; Differential Equations; and Complex Variables, to name a few. Prerequisites were: College Algebra, Trigonometry, and Analytic Geometry. Therefore, I have a wide and deep exposure to many Math topics that would be of benefit to my students. I've had many opportunities to teach and tutor during my career and I still get excited and love when I see the "light bulb" come on in the eyes of my students. There is no better feeling than being able to help someone reach a new understanding of something [more]

My most recent ACT Math students took the test in October and called to tell me they had increased their scores. One had raised her Math score by four points and earned a composite score of 29! My ADHD student had raised hers by 5 in math and 6 in reading. It is gratifying to hear how well my students have done, and I am glad to play a part in helping them work toward their dreams. Please call me Miss Peggy--it is much friendlier than Margaret. I absolutely LOVE to teach! It is a joy to help students of all ages, even adults! We manage to have a little fun with it as you learn. I like math, and I enjoy helping others understand mathematical concepts and methodologies. I really enjoy that moment when "the light bulb goes on" and a student "gets it". Explaining the underlying concepts and relating them to something the student can understand really helps. I believe the goal of mathematics is understanding not merely finding a solution to a particular problem or following some recipe of memorized equations and steps. I have tutored math through Faulkner State and Pen... [more]

While pursuing my doctorate, I got the chance to teach my fellow students as a teacher's assistant. The past couple of years, I've been working as an online lesson writer. It's good work, but there's an element to student interaction that I feel I miss. I did well in all aspects of the ACT when I took the test. I've edited and reviewed math lessons up to calculus as part of my employment. I can handle most common high school science topics, as science instruction is part of my Curriculu... [more]
