I am a college graduate who was an RN for 17 years. During that time, I home schooled my three boys for eight years, and just completed being my youngest son's learning coach for online school from 2011 to 2013. I have taught science, math, algebra, history, spelling, language, phonics geometry, math analysis, and many other classes. I have also taken the NCLEX in the past. I was also in the military and scored very well on the ASVAB test. I have taken many college level classes in anatom... [more]

I've taught and tutored ACT prep to about 150 students. The good news is that it's not as tricky as the SAT; expect ACT math questions to be relatively direct. It's true that the Math section does have a few questions on advanced topics (but NO calculus). However, most of the difficult questions aren't hard because you haven't reached that math class yet. So, what makes a question hard? Possibilities include 1) it's a word problem with lots of information to keep track of, 2) it asks about hypothetical values rather than giving you numbers, and 3) it disguises easy math in an unfamiliar scen [more]

When taking a standardized test such as the ACT, one must quickly analyze a problem in order to immediately discard inefficient methods of solution. Therefore, besides just teaching concepts relevant to the math and science portions of the ACT, I teach students to recognize the types of questions asked, and immediately decide on the most efficient method of solution. In this way, test takers can effectively use their time and reduce their stress. I am a mathematician and scientist through and through! I received B.S. degrees in mathematics and atmospheric science from the University of Wisc [more]

I'm a physics graduate and current student at Oklahoma State University earning my bachelor's degree in mathematics. I've had many great teachers in my time at OSU and they've shown me that the only way to learn something is to start with a strong foundation in the subject and employ good problem solving skills. Just memorizing formulas and equations is an excellent way to fail an exam. I know, because I've been there too. As a tutor I will try to prepare my students with all the knowledg... [more]
