Problem-solving for standardized test questions in math is one of my specialties. As a tutor, I'll help make sure you have a solid conceptual base in all of the topics covered on the test. We'll also spend time working on testing strategies - how to narrow down the choices of right answers, use test time efficiently, and make smart decisions about when to guess or skip a question. My whole approach to teaching can be summed up by a quote from Albert Einstein: "Imagination is More Important than Knowledge." I teach for long-term retention of concepts - not short term retention of facts. In toda [more]

The way I got into teaching was my community needed math and science volunteers to help local high-schoolers pass exit exams. Once I started tutoring for exit exams, the need arose for ACT and SAT tutoring for students who were going to college. My experience as a chemistry teacher along with my math skills equips me for SAT Math, ACT Math, and ACT Science tutoring. For example, after consistent weekly sessions with a few students focusing mostly on math, students recently taking the ACT had composite scores of 29, 25, and 24 with their math score being the highest. These scores are high enou [more]
