My passion for tutoring comes from a love of seeing students grow and succeed in areas in which they have struggled in the past. My experience ranges from being a math tutor in high school, a writing tutor for undergraduate and graduate students in college, and currently, an after-school tutor at the high school where I teach 10th-12th grade literature classes. One of my goals in teaching is to help students develop a love of learning and become independent learners. I love to see students be... [more]

I received a BA degree in Mathematics from Temple University. Previously, I taught mathematics courses as a recitation instructor for undergraduates including Finite Mathematics with Applications and also Differential and Integral Calculus. Teaching is a rewarding experience for me since I focus not only on the basic mechanics and problem solving techniques, but also on the creative presentation of concepts from various viewpoints. This approach is helpful since everyone has different abilit... [more]

As part of my civil engineering degree, I gained a firm grasp on mathematical concepts including all of the critical concepts covered by the ACT math section. I will work specifically with students to target the areas that can be focused on in order to maximize success on the test. I have also taken this exam, and I know the pressures associated with preparing for it, so I will focus on creating situations that equip the student for the day of the test in order to truly convey the material that they have mastered. The key to ACT math is to realize that it's a standardized test - to compare students from year to year they are testing the same rules over and over. The form of the questions may vary, but once you identify the rule that they are testing you can find how the numbers fit into the rule. I have my own material that lays out all the rules that ACT math tests, plus practice problems for each. I'm a retired software developer and live in Philadelphia. I have tutored SAT and ACT math and reading for The Princeton Review, tutored K-12 math and reading and SAT and ACT for Huntington Learning Center [more]
