ACT preparation is best approached by practice. My students take practice exams and I review the areas of weakness whether they related to Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, or other foundation material. I also discuss test taking strategy to include careful reading of the test question, recording important information, process of elimination for multiple choices, and expected areas of knowledge. This practice involves a careful analysis of the student's strengths and weaknesses as well as an assessment of his/her instinctive method in determining the solution. I exercise a high degree of patience by initially allowing my students to work through each problem before I intervene. This enables a continuous feedback loop for me and an autonomous learning structure for them, which ultimately translates to succe... [more]

I work with students to improve basic skills and I teach them the skills they have not yet covered in their own math class. Most important is increasing confidence. With confidence, students can work faster so time is not a factor. I review each of the subject areas and assess the student's ability to answer specific types of problems in each subject. I explain what they do wrong and what they do not know, then I send them home with specific sets of problems to work out before the next session. [more]
