I have helped many students study for the ACT/SAT exams. I find that on average I materially improve their scores. I work with students on an individual basis, I focus on their learning styles and their skills. On standardized tests I also offer a unique analytical approach on test taking techniques. I am an experienced teacher who was the Math Department chairperson and an instructional leader (teacher of teachers) at a prestigious blue ribbon school. I taught and designed all math courses from prealgebra through calculus. I received a PhD from Columbia University where I studied Applied Phys [more]

I have been tutoring for 3 years. I enjoy working toward helping students succeed. We have fun learning and there is no pressure toward learning just a nudge to get the student on the right path. I am now finishing up my Master's degree in elementary teaching. I have enjoyed learning throughout this course. There was a lot I did not know, but now I am confident. Students have different ways of learning. Not all students learn the same way. I have learn to be patient and assess the best learni... [more]

With over 23 years of experience in teaching mathematics, all levels and in different states, I can help students that struggle with math or want to know more. ACT Math is a 60 question 60 minute test. It has pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and data analysis. I enjoyed helping others solve problems and develop techniques to remember concepts or turn hard problems into easy problems. I believe that repetition and learning concepts is the key to learning any subject. That is my teaching strategy. I help my student understand why each step is needed. I love math and I have used it subs [more]

My name is Joel and I want to thank you for taking the time to explore my tutor profile. I wear many hats including being a physician in training, pianist, day-trader, and professional tutor. To use an appropriate analogy, when you have car trouble, you take your car to a mechanic to fix the problem, NOT the salesman who sold it to you. As a professional tutor, I want to be your trusted mechanic. I am NOT a current/former teacher. Whereas teachers are trained to present "testable" informati... [more]

As a student, I was gifted in math. I went through school rarely scoring anything lower than a 95 in math courses. I routinely tested in the 99 percentile on standardized test, and as a 6th grader test showed I was already beyond the 11th grade level. I finished several college math courses with a 105 average. I started tutoring math in January of 2001. I have math tutoring experience from k-12 and college students in courses that include basic math, pre-algebra, algebra, calculus, geometry, ... [more]
