I tutor both the SAT and ACT math sections. Personally, I think the ACT math section better covers real world expectations for most students - obviously math and physics students need more skills than the ACT covers, but not everyone in the world plans on being one of those two professionals. For the rest of us (even many scientists), aptitude on the ACT Math section correlates to success in college math and math-affiliated fields.
