I'm a full-time high school science and math teacher and can help you or your child focus on test-taking strategies as well as solidifying understanding of the material itself. The science covered on the test relies less on memorization of terms and more on being able to think logically about the material presented in the questions themselves, so the key is to focus on habits of mind and speed when working through problems. I find nothing more rewarding than helping students to deeply understand how things work and to watch them grow more and more confident in their own abilities. I am a full- [more]

I have been trained by a tutoring company in NYC to prepare students for the ACT. Interestingly enough, the science section on the ACT does not require any outside knowledge of science. It tests students' ability to read graphs, infer conclusions, evaluate experimental evidence, and apply the scientific method. There isn't a lot of time on these sections, so efficiency is the primary goal. I have access to a deep library of preparatory materials and prepare students using time-management techniques that have proven effective. [more]

I have tutored ACT Science for four years and have helped dozens of students significantly improve their scores. For the science section it is critical to be able to read graphs. The test has a lot of variables and spreads them across two, three, sometimes four graphs. I have been tutoring Algebra, Geometry, Statistics, English, Writing, Philosophy, SAT, ACT, Grade school math and English as well as MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for over three years; there is nothing I enjoy more than watching my students succeed. I create a relaxed environment for my students in order to make the work [more]

***My Experience*** In my 10+ years as an educator and tutor I've worked one-on-one with dozens of students on test prep (SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, PSAT, GRE, GMAT, and Regents), academic subject support (math, physics, chemistry, and Spanish), writing, and college application coaching. My students range in age from 10 to 50 and come from diverse educational backgrounds. I graduated magna cum laude in English from Harvard University, and I have a master's degree from Columbia University, wher... [more]

I have experience working on ACT prep with students of all levels and needs. I've found that ACT Science gives students trouble because they simply never practice these skills in school. I work with students to give them the tips and tools that they need to better understand the ACT science section. What once seemed like the most daunting section of the ACT often becomes the favorite of my student's! Highlights of my student's successes (overall ACT scores): -Student-athlete went from a 12 to a 21 -UPenn bound student went from a 32 to a 35 (one wrong question away from 36) -Student went from [more]

I am just finishing my PhD in Anthropology from Columbia University. I have a lot of teaching experience, from lecturing in 300 student classes to one-on-one tutoring. I've taught children with reading problems in Holt Michigan, and taught English as a second language to children in Hong Kong, where I also worked as a private tutor. I have taught archaeology and anthropology classes at Columbia University in New York City and at Community College in Baltimore. In sum, I have taught a variety... [more]

If you're looking for somebody to either help you catch up in math, or get ahead in math, I'm your guy. I was a math major at Washington University in St. Louis, and minored in German, economics, and writing. While there, I tutored students in everything from counting to calculus, and beyond. I then earned a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Bard College in '07. I've been tutoring for 12+ years, and full-time for 8+. I've had students between the ages of 6 and 66, with a focus on high sch... [more]

I've been tutoring college entrance exams for quite a long time, and one of the biggest pieces of misinformation is that you need to prior knowledge on the science section of the ACT--you don't, and I can show you exactly how to decode those charts, graphs, and text blocks so you can get a nice score. Hi there! I'm Patrick, and I'd be happy to help you learn something new! I am currently a Mathematics Education doctoral student at Columbia University, where I have completed my Mathematics BA (2014), Mathematics Education MA (2016), and Mathematics Education MPhil (2017). This will mark my 10th [more]
