I am just finishing my PhD in Anthropology from Columbia University. I have a lot of teaching experience, from lecturing in 300 student classes to one-on-one tutoring. I've taught children with reading problems in Holt Michigan, and taught English as a second language to children in Hong Kong, where I also worked as a private tutor. I have taught archaeology and anthropology classes at Columbia University in New York City and at Community College in Baltimore. In sum, I have taught a variety... [more]

You have important goals for your education. I can help you get the test score you need to accomplish your goals. I scored a perfect 800 on the SAT Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing tests, and I've been helping students improve their scores for over ten years. I love tutoring, and I make each lesson dynamic, engaging, and enjoyable. I've worked with students of many different backgrounds, including non-native English speakers and students with learning disabilities. I'm able to expl... [more]

Hi, I'm Richard. I have been helping students as a tutor for over thirty years in subjects as different as accounting and chemistry. My philosophy of tutoring, and teaching in general, is that the student should always be in the process of learning TWO things: the subject at hand, of course, but even more importantly he or she should be learning how best to approach new and unfamiliar material. What makes tutoring an ideal environment in which to learn is that I can help you see what ways of ... [more]

"Since we cannot know all that there is to be known about anything, we ought to know a little about everything." -Blaise Pascal My strength as an educator stems from my diversity of knowledge and experience. I have endeavored to model my philosophy on the Renaissance Men and autodidacts of history: Leonardo da Vinci, Gottfried Leibnitz, Cicero? I have travelled to Barrow, Alaska; San Francisco, California; Key West, Florida and Berlin, Germany. I've read novels by Leo Tolstoy, Charles Dicken... [more]

I've been tutoring college entrance exams for quite a long time, and one of the biggest pieces of misinformation is that you need to prior knowledge on the science section of the ACT--you don't, and I can show you exactly how to decode those charts, graphs, and text blocks so you can get a nice score. Hi there! I'm Patrick, and I'd be happy to help you learn something new! I am currently a Mathematics Education doctoral student at Columbia University, where I have completed my Mathematics BA (2014), Mathematics Education MA (2016), and Mathematics Education MPhil (2017). This will mark my 10th [more]

I'm a full-time high school science and math teacher and can help you or your child focus on test-taking strategies as well as solidifying understanding of the material itself. The science covered on the test relies less on memorization of terms and more on being able to think logically about the material presented in the questions themselves, so the key is to focus on habits of mind and speed when working through problems. I find nothing more rewarding than helping students to deeply understand how things work and to watch them grow more and more confident in their own abilities. I am a full- [more]

I have been trained by a tutoring company in NYC to prepare students for the ACT. Interestingly enough, the science section on the ACT does not require any outside knowledge of science. It tests students' ability to read graphs, infer conclusions, evaluate experimental evidence, and apply the scientific method. There isn't a lot of time on these sections, so efficiency is the primary goal. I have access to a deep library of preparatory materials and prepare students using time-management techniques that have proven effective. [more]

Math and science knowledge excites and inspires me. When I see math problems, I can visualize multiple approaches to get to the solution. I also love breaking down complex science concepts into tangible and intuitive analogies. There is art and beauty in creative problem solving in math and science, and it is my pleasure to share this enthusiasm with others in the context of achieving high scores on important Regents, SAT/ACT, SAT II subject tests, and AP exams. I earned a Bachelor of Scien... [more]

I have experience working on ACT prep with students of all levels and needs. I've found that ACT Science gives students trouble because they simply never practice these skills in school. I work with students to give them the tips and tools that they need to better understand the ACT science section. What once seemed like the most daunting section of the ACT often becomes the favorite of my student's! Highlights of my student's successes (overall ACT scores): -Student-athlete went from a 12 to a 21 -UPenn bound student went from a 32 to a 35 (one wrong question away from 36) -Student went from [more]
