I passed the Probability (P) exam for actuaries in the spring of 2015. I have been studying for the Financial Mathematics (FM) exam for a year and can now do all all the problems in the Society of Actuaries' "Exam FM Sample Questions." I will be registering for this exam in March and taking it in April. I studied mathematics at M.I.T. for many years. I came to Georgia to get a doctorate in philosophy. I have been teaching and tutoring for a decade at various colleges, including Athens Technical College, University of Georgia, Piedmont College, and the University of South Carolina, Upstate. [more]

I have taught Probability & Statistics on a college level with applications to determine insurance rates and risks. My teaching included specific examples of relating flood insurance rates with the finished floor elevation of structures within a designated floodplain. The finished floor elevation was then compared to the base flood elevation (100-year storm event) to determine the risk.
