I passed the Probability (P) exam for actuaries in the spring of 2015. I have been studying for the Financial Mathematics (FM) exam for a year and can now do all all the problems in the Society of Actuaries' "Exam FM Sample Questions." I will be registering for this exam in March and taking it in April. I studied mathematics at M.I.T. for many years. I came to Georgia to get a doctorate in philosophy. I have been teaching and tutoring for a decade at various colleges, including Athens Technical College, University of Georgia, Piedmont College, and the University of South Carolina, Upstate. [more]

I graduated magna cum laude from Georgia State University with a degree in actuarial science. I am an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and worked several years as a consultant in defined benefits and also for Life of Georgia. I am a wife, a mother of three and a math tutor. I love all of these parts of my life and find joy in helping others. I enjoy working with and getting to know students who are struggling in school. I always try to bring a positive attitude to the sessions. I've been thrilled to see the students I've worked with make passing grades in their math class, make high scor [more]

I have passed Exam P and am preparing for Exam FM in April. Hi, I'm Kevin! I'm a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am an honors student majoring in both mathematics and mathematical decision sciences (statistics). I began teaching students as a part-time job in high school, and have since realized that tutoring is all about gaining the most out of your supplementary education. I try my very best to prepare my own preparatory materials and to really take time to ensure that students understand the core concepts and not just t... [more]

I have taught Probability & Statistics on a college level with applications to determine insurance rates and risks. My teaching included specific examples of relating flood insurance rates with the finished floor elevation of structures within a designated floodplain. The finished floor elevation was then compared to the base flood elevation (100-year storm event) to determine the risk. This risk is calculated using probabilities of occurrence and potential damage. The probability of a flood event was incorporated into the probability of a single, independent event occurring. Each flood e [more]

I have passed SOA (Society of Actuaries) Exam FM for Financial Mathematics, June 2012. I am currently preparing to sit for Exam P (Probability) projected exam date: March 18. I also prepared extensively for Exam MLC and sat for that examination in May of 2014 but unfortunately didn't pass that time. I tutored and graded all through college and found it to be rewarding. I really enjoy the "lightbulb" moment when something finally clicks (even if it's me!) I take the approach that helping my clients build confidence with a subject they struggle with tends to have a ripple effect which helps [more]
