The approach I give to this subject doesn't differ too much with that for other Algebra levels. Making sure students have the fundamentals of Algebra when assessment takes place during first lesson is my major concern. From there on is a matter of building up on new concepts. Building blocks is what Algebra is about. I have more than 15 years of experience in tutoring students of all ages and levels of education from elementary to graduate school. I am most interested in changing the way my students perceive themselves when approaching math. Throughout the years, I have had the most rewarding [more]

I was paid to help teach middle and high school students math, physics, chemistry, psychology, neuroscience, forensic science, and law at a summer camp sponsored by UCI this last summer. I just graduated from UCSD with a B.S. in Physiology and Neuroscience. My GPA was 3.75. I'm currently completing a gap year before I begin medical school in August. In college, I was a volunteer tutor for a student organization in which I taught organic chemistry and physiology. I also was a Teaching Assistant in a Metabolic Brain Disorders course during which I was responsible for the learning of 40 students. [more]

Algebra is one of the pillars of Math. Variables such as x and y are used represent unknown numbers until their values can be determined. Fortunately, there aren?t too many things you have to memorize in Algebra. It's mainly intuitive. Once you know the techniques, you will be amazed at how powerful they can be. Topics in Algebra 1 include handling linear equations and inequalities, graphing, word problems, exponents and radicals, quadratic equations and factoring. Just let me know what you need help with. I have explained these concepts many, many times not just for other math courses but for the sciences also. I have been around instructors for my entire life. My mother was a general tutor for the neighborhood and I helped her when our small apartment was stuffed with children and textbooks, writing, reading and aiding them with math after my own homework was done. Much later, I found a paying job at a small tutoring center. There, I mainly tutored physics and, tutoring many students working on the same subject, I was able to teach the same concepts over and over. As a result, the explanations [more]

I am a UCI honors graduate in mathematics with a minor in computer science. I started tutoring as a favor for a friend and have found that tutoring is one of the most rewarding experiences I can have. Many of my students have gone from D's with no understanding to A's with the ability to peer tutor their classmates. It is always wonderful to enter a student's home and hear "I got an A on the test!" or "the teacher says I am her most improved student." I look for the concepts that students... [more]

Math can be tough. Indeed, learning how to deal with the mental knots frustration we tie ourselves in is just as important as understanding how to find the intersects of a line and a parabola. With my holistic approach, I help my students with the math, yes, but I help them even more to learn how to teach themselves. This is my gift. Kathryn is a professional private tutor who spends her life helping students understand tough concepts in math and science. She is an aficionado of these subjects herself, having spent a rigorous four years at Harvey Mudd College, where she received her BS in Mole [more]

Algebra 1 is very easy to master if you have a good instructor. I will explain all the material to my students kindly and by using the techniques that I have learned through different grades. I will use games and visual strategies to make the concept easy to understand. I have been a tutor for Math and Farsi for about 15 years now. I used to work for an institution in LA while working as a private tutor as well. Now, due to my busy schedule and high demand I only do private and small group tutoring. I am good with children, having two of my own. My teaching techniques are effective and fun a [more]
