CRLA certified (level 1) and over a year of experience tutoring I am a current student of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the University of Florida. My education is most important to me and my favorite and most successful subject has always been math. I enjoy tutoring in more advanced topics (pre-calculus, trigonometry, calculus, differential equations, etc.) but I have experience tutoring all subjects from high school algebra through calculus. I have experience as a tutor for Palm Beach State College (in their learning center) for over two years ... [more]

I not only have a love of teaching but a general thirst for knowledge. I was the student in undergraduate who wanted to take as many classes as I could. My first love is biology, and with that comes the general fascination with life. I believe learning is a constant process, and I not only seek to assist students in their learning endeavors but learn something about my teaching skills in the process. Everyone learns differently and at their own pace. Therefore, it's my job to facilitate the l... [more]

Hi! I'm Brooke and I'm a second year student at UF pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Biomechanics. I scored in the 99th percentile in the ACT and 97th percentile on the SAT when I took them in 2016. I believe in using more than one way to explain a concept, and leading students to the answer rather than giving it to them. I use a question-based approach to tutoring that allows students to learn the material rather than memorize it for short term use. I am adaptabl... [more]

With my major in physics and minor in mathematics education through the UFTeach program, I manipulate variables and solve equations on a daily basis. In other words, algebra is fundamental knowledge in my line of work. As part of being in the UFTeach program, I taught a 12th grade class on Advanced Algebra with Financial Applications at Gainesville High School. After I completed the UFTeach program, I learned the importance of differential instruction and being able to teach a diverse set of learners. [more]

I tutored peers in Algebra 1 weekly for two years through Key Club at my high school. I am currently a sophomore at UF pursuing a major in biochemistry. I have experience tutoring through my high school's Key Club for a little over 2 years, and I have always had fun helping my peers with their questions. I have been helping my peers with mainly math since the 4th grade. When formally tutoring in chemistry, I like to work out a problem and explain it step-by-step, as well as conceptually, and provide the answers myself, then let the student try a similar problem with prompt... I earned an A when I took Algebra 1. I have also taken math courses after Algebra 1 that have included Algebra principles, including pre-calculus, calculus 1 and 2. A skill that makes Algebra 1 different and more difficult from other math courses is the need to turn words into equations. My experience with higher-level math and science courses this skill is something I have a lot of practice with. I think the best strategy for learning Algebra 1 is doing lots of practice problems until the student is comfortable tackling problems by themselves. [more]

I am currently a fourth-year Finance major at the University of Florida. I have experience teaching in that I was a Business Finance Teaching Assistant last year. I loved being in the class and helping students with any questions they had. I also looked forward to the review session each week to make sure students were caught up and understood the material. I loved interacting with students like me and helping them through this course. I was excited to be able to use my knowledge and skills ... [more]

I believe the combination of my education and professional work experience uniquely qualifies me to teach math. I have a BS degree in Chemical Engineering and Agricultural and Biological engineering, both from the University of Florida. I worked as a Chemical Engineer for more than 7 years. More than 15 years ago, I began teaching math. Since then, I have been either teaching or tutoring various math subjects. I love helping people achieve their goals and I believe that I am an extremely effective communicator. My teaching strategies have been proven to make learning math easy for people [more]
