I'm John, and I do a little bit of everything! I'm currently a medical student at the University of Wisconsin, and I did my undergrad at the University of Minnesota. In between, I did a couple of terms of service with AmeriCorps - first as a math tutor at Pratt Community School in Minneapolis, and later as a math tutor at Memorial High School in Madison. My approach to tutoring is that all students can be successful if they are well understood and if concepts and ideas are communicated clear... [more]

I taught myself algebra in the 2nd grade. I have tutored algebra 1 for five years and was an algebra 1 TA in high school. My name is Seth. I have loved math every since I was a little kid. It was the subject that always made sense to me and I found fun in the ability to solve problems. This passion that I have is shown in my tutoring style. I try to show how math isn't just a lame subject, but try to show how to be enthusiastic about it. I have tutored almost every subject in math while I was a math teacher at Sylvan Learning Center. My expertise is in more advanced material like calculus and [more]

Yes, it is literally true; I won Tutor of the Year at Madison College (MATC) in 2011, working almost exclusively as a math tutor. (I started off as a Spanish tutor.) I LOVE math and traditionally have worked well with people who DON'T love math or struggle with it. I can cover all or algebra from memory; about 90% of trig as well (although for a few topics a heads-up would help so I can review); and I will be reviewing my calc soon so I can offer that as well. (I have taken it through C... [more]

I am Illinois certified middle school math teacher at Morgan Park Academy, a private school on the south side of Chicago. I love teaching young people not only the step by step processes of solving math problems, but also the concepts behind these processes. I'm passionate about what I do and live for those a-ha moments with my students. Seeing a student finally understand a difficult concept and develop confidence in their abilities is a thrill that I always look forward to. I have taught ... [more]

I'm Nick. I earned a BS and a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago). I have also earned an MBA from the Executive Masters Program at Northwestern University (Evanston, IL). I have always been passionate about technical problems and mathematical concepts and have applied that passion to my various jobs within the manufacturing sector. Although I've never been a full-time teacher, I have discovered that I have the ability to break down difficult c... [more]

I took this course and received an A in it. I understand that math is a series of stepping stones to learning and am willing to work with students to help them grasp it every step of the way. I grasp all the concepts in this course and understand the ideas of it deeply. I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Richmond who is double majoring in Physics and Mathematical Economics with a minor in Math. I am currently an undergraduate research student in a biophysics lab work under a PhD recipient to analyzing fibrins in the body to see their mechanical properties and what tho [more]

I have had great success in helping students to really understand the concepts of algebra 1. I use a number of different real-world examples and focus on understanding rather than the computational side. I also have tips for making the computations easier. As an experienced and patient tutor of physics and of math subjects through calculus and college first year linear algebra and differential equations, my great delight is in seeing the "light bulb" of comprehension in my students' faces. These subjects are not as difficult as they often seem to my students before they meet with me. My concre [more]

I prefer student-centered approach over instructor-centered approach. Learning should be fun and personal. I love teaching. I started tutoring kids and teaching them origami during my high school years. I tutored physics and chemistry at the learning center in a college during my undergraduate years. I graduated with a PhD in chemistry. Currently, I am obtaining a Masters in education. I have taught for 10+ years in different schools, including some of the largest and top-ranked universities.... I have had experience in high school being an SAT tutor for math and English for Kumon, and in college when I TA'd general biology lab and tutored students in biochemistry as a work study. My approach to tutoring is more one-on-one and visual rather than lecturing general information from textbooks. I come prepared with example problems that increase in difficulty and diagrams to help them grasp the lesson as I am also a visual learner. I enjoy teaching because I feel fulfilled when my ... I have tutored special needs college students in Algebra before. I received A's in all of my algebra courses from high school through college. I love children of all ages and especially love helping them succeed. I have two toddlers of my own and while they don't have homework yet they definitely love to learn, which is a rewarding experience every single day. I'm looking to tutor children in grade school or middle school who need some help with algebra, reading or English. Learning in school was always fun for me so I look forward to making it fun for the next generation of kids. A [more]
