I taught AP & IB Physics for six years in the late 90's, with exceptional success for my students on all AP and IB exams. I've also taught regular physics (as opposed to college prep). And I taught Algebra 1 through Calculus in rural Louisiana through the Teach For America program before I got licensed to teach physics. These and other teaching jobs involved quite a bit of one-on-one work with students. Even though I was known for guiding my students to good results on the AP and IB physics ... [more]

I am a tutor who taught algebra 1 as a classroom teacher in a private school. I work with students of all ability levels to help them understand and enjoy this branch of mathematics. I have been teaching this course for over ten years, and I feel confident in assisting students with their homework, and with the review of important concepts. In addition, I assist students with preparing for the ACT and SAT exams, and I know exactly what algebra elements students must master to perform well on the math sections of those tests. [more]

Algebra I involves the basic understanding of algebra including solving for one unknown variable either with multiplication/division or addition/subtraction. It also includes graphing of equations, and understanding mean, median, and mode. When teaching Algebra I, I stress mental mathematics but also recommend a graphing calculator and graph paper. I use straight math practice problems for basic understanding of each concept, but will quickly progress each student to mostly solving word problems as these are the true application of math and the best retention method. Hi, I'm Bjorn, a recent PhD in mathematics. I have extensive (5+ years) experience tutoring in both mathematics and physics at the high school and university levels. Unlike most tutors, I only take on students in subjects that are closely related to my areas of academic specialization and experience. I hold a PhD in mathematics. I also hold a Bachelor's degree in mathematics. I have taught both at the university level in large undergraduate lectures and tutored students 1 on 1. Through this... [more]

I have tutored math and science since college. For 4 years, my part time job in college was a teaching assistant at University of Minnesota in General College's Math Center. Also, I worked in Math Special Projects and the Astronomy department as a teaching assistant. After graduation, I was employed as a teacher at Sylvan Learning Center. This was a great opportunity until I decided to start my own tutor business. Tutoring has been my part time business for 10 years. My philosophy is all c... [more]

My certification is in secondary mathematics, grades 6-12 and Special Education. I have taught Algebra I classes in public, private and home school for 8 years. Algebra I is my favorite subject to teach, as I love see the students make connections at this basic high school level so they can be successful in the more advanced classes. My experiences have given me the open mind to approach problems in many different ways, until the student understands. Hi! I moved to Minneapolis from South Florida 4 years ago, where I have certification in Secondary Math, grades 6-12, and Special Education. [more]

Algebra is a subject that is continually used throughout mathematics. It is generally the final step in solving more complex problems in upper level mathematics. This is why the material stays fresh in people?s minds. Throughout calculus, engineering courses, and most physics courses the problems dealt with reorganizing the information, or substituting relevant, equaling, information before using the final steps of algebra to solve it. So though I haven?t had Algebra I since I was fourteen, the materials taught have been used thoroughly since I learned it. Also with the additive of having Lin [more]
