Dear Parents and Students, Algebra 1 is the cornerstone for higher mathematics. It involves the concepts of prealgebra as well as many new concepts. It can feel almost overwhelming in trying to master these skills. Oftentimes, one concept is quickly introduced after another. I go over each concept and progress at the rate of the student. Sometimes just repeating the exercises in a slightly different way is all that is necessary for success. Some of the students have raised their grade two levels. Thank you for allowing me the privilege to tutor your child. [more]

Currently an Electrical Engineering student at ODU. Taken and scored top of scores for the CLEP College Algebra Test recently, as well as ASVAB and SAT. Had a job requiring math in Navy for 10 years before becoming an instructor. After Navy, decided to start an engineering career (in progress) but have been tutoring throughout my time in college too. Summary: I enjoy helping others succeed (more than myself at times). Despite missing just two questions on the SAT, I decided to enlist in Navy. They tried to convince me to be a nuclear technician but I like myself radiation free - thank yo [more]

I have 12 years experience teaching Algebra 1 Series, Algebra 1 Honors, PETAL Algebra 1 with minimal expedited retakes and a 30% average passed advanced. Unlike most other math teachers, I was not good in math until Algebra One in ninth grade. I had an understanding, patient, and tremendously good teacher and since then, well... the world of math has been mine! Intending to teach for one year between engineering jobs, fourteen years later, I'm still teaching and my students experience a world of investigation and discovery. I am a licensed 6-12 mathematics teacher in Virginia with twelve y [more]

Out of all of the subjects that I tutor, algebra 1 is my favorite. It is the foundation for all of your subsequent math courses. I have taught algebra to high school students, as well as to college students in developmental math and college algebra. I have also helped many students with understanding the algebra problems that appear on the Accuplacer, ACT, ASVAB, AFOQT, SAT, and TEAS exams. I graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Mathematics from Christopher Newport University. I earned departmental honors for having the highest GPA in the Math department. As an undergraduate, I was a math [more]

As Math Resource Teacher for 2 years, I tutored students who are challenged in Algebra so they can pass the SOL. The key to learning at this level is a strong foundation in Basic Math. Reading and comprehension skills also support success at this level. Showing examples and working hands on is one of the best approaches to mastery. I am a teacher, researcher, counselor, and a nurse. I love to do and teach research/thesis/dissertation writing. In my career, I have advised, coached, and graduated students in college and post graduate level. I can work with you with research format, writing [more]

I currently have seven years experience with tutoring Algebra 1. I have tutored on the middle school, high school, and college level. During my middle and high school tutoring experience, I prepared students to re-take a mandated state-wide test during remedial sessions. While a student at Delaware state, I was an official campus tutor for Algebra I, Trigonometry, and Calculus I. I was also employed as a teacher's assistant for these courses and during my employment, I developed practice problems and quizzes for the sessions that I lead. [more]

I have tutored high school Algebra as well as College Algebra. As a former student, I took and passed my Algebra course in 7th grade and have a preferred interest in math. I have an immense experience within teaching and tutoring. As a high school student, I tutored other students in lower grades prior to my first part-time job. Due to a joint effort, their grade transformed from failing to passing with an A! Also, I successfully graduated from Temple University in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree with a 3.31 GPA. Although I have recently moved from the Virginia Beach area, I am curr [more]

I have a masters degree in public health--epidemiology and biostatistics and a bachelor of arts--English literature. I've always had a problem with having too many interests. I've never been able to narrow it down. I love playing cello, and am only a few credits away from a music major. In college I studied English literature. After college, I joined Peace Corps and moved to Ukraine for two years to teach others English as a foreign language. Along the way, I fell in love with Russian and... [more]
