My years of experience working with students who struggle with math comes down to one word: listen. I don't talk at students, I listen to them "think out loud" as they explain how they approach a problem. It's by listening that I can really understand where a student needs help, then present the student with similar problems as we work through that challenge. My whole approach to teaching can be summed up by a quote from Albert Einstein: "Imagination is More Important than Knowledge." I teach for long-term retention of concepts - not short term retention of facts. In today's connected world, t [more]

I have been tutoring privately for over ten years. I have been employed as a tutor for math, science, and English at high schools in San Antonio and Taft, Texas. I believe that I am qualified to tutor in Algebra 1 due to my significant tutoring experience while teaching this subject. I have experience tutoring students to complete their end of course examination in Algebra along with preparing students to complete Algebra problems that were on standardized tests such as the STAAR examination. My experience in Algebra includes assisting students in the classroom and completing in-home tutorials as well. I am a believer in practice and repetition, therefore I encourage my students to work additional problems outside of their coursework to help them to [more]

Education is important in the development of a child. Mathematics especially helps the student to critically think and work out steps to solve real life word problems. To truly understand mathematics, you can't just memorize formulas or equations. My name is Jimmy Garza, and I have more than 9 years in tutoring experience. I can tutor in any math subject K-12 and even in Chemistry. I have worked with home-schooled students on some of these subjects. Being a younger tutor, I certainly can rela... [more]

I have always had to work hard to show that I was capable of succeeding. I earned every A that I received in high school and college. Like most students, I am passionate about my career, but sometimes grades don?t show it. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering at Texas A&M University. The fact that I received the opportunity to work for the space program is a testament to my hard work and never giving up attitude. I love to teach students and inspire them to go after the... My interest in teaching developed when my family and I decided to move to the United State. I had to make decisions on which job was right for me, and what type of work environment I wanted to work. While I studied my Bachelor's degree, I had the opportunity to always help a group of friends with particularly challenging math course that they were having difficulty understanding. I showed them different way to approach the problem. Once they started to apply my methods they began und... [more]

As a certified math teacher, I can help you with Algebra I. We can review arithmetical laws, the use of variables, functional relationships, and the use of equations to model word problems. We can also study linear, quadratic, exponential, and inverse functions. Methods for graphing, analyzing, and solving systems of equations and inequalities can also be covered. As needed, we can reinforce pre-algebra concepts such as negative numbers, fractions, and calculator and computational skills. I am a computer scientist, engineer, and Texas-certified teacher who is highly qualified to teach mathem [more]

Algebra was my favorite subject in school. I even remember my high school Algebra I teacher, Mrs. White. She created in me a love for Algebra and I get that same joy when I am able to help students master this subject. Even though I am a Chemistry major, Math was my minor, and I had to take everything from Basic Math to Calculus. I believe one-on-one tutoring in Algebra can make all the difference in the world. I tutor many subjects on a regular basis, but get the most practice in Algebra I, II, and Pre-Algebra. [more]
