Algebra 1 methods and concepts are the foundation for all of the future studies of mathematics. However, in addition to knowing these, the results of doing algebra work must also be correct. That is why I teach my students to do the work in a disciplined and organized way: write all the steps down, check the results at each step, and organize their written work in a very clear way.
