I started tutoring informally in high school, helping friends to understand the material, but I have always loved science communication. I fell in love with science while hiking and camping with my family. I was insatiably curious and constantly trying to investigate the world around me. As I have grown, this curiosity and excitement has remained constant, and I have discovered a love for sharing it with others. I believe that curiosity and excitement are necessary to bring out the best i... [more]

Let x equal the joy of learning! I'm a former middle school math and science teacher who loves working with young people one-on-one. My favorite subject to tutor is Algebra, because I enjoy helping students improve their understanding of math concepts and gain new skills. I've tutored on and off throughout my life, beginning in college, and I always seem to come back to it. I've tutored calculus, writing, elementary reading, middle school math, and French. When I was a 6th-grade teacher, I got a lot out of working with students one on one because I was able to tailor my instruction directly [more]

Algebra 1 methods and concepts are the foundation for all of the future studies of mathematics. However, in addition to knowing these, the results of doing algebra work must also be correct. That is why I teach my students to do the work in a disciplined and organized way: write all the steps down, check the results at each step, and organize their written work in a very clear way. These skills minimize the chance of making careless errors. I also begin to introduce students to the functionality of the graphing calculator; it's the skill that would serve them well both now, and in the future. [more]
