I am a graduate of San Francisco State University with a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I have been tutoring and teaching math and the sciences now for several years. I am passionate about science, and communicating that passion to others. My teaching strategy is a combination of various elements. I am a big believer in the idea that the best way to learn is to teach. To that end, I ask many questions to encourage the student to teach me what they know a... [more]

As an Engineer, I found math to be my most valuable tool, useful in all sorts of applications. As a math teacher working with many students, I found that a lot of people struggle with the subject for a variety of reasons. My goal as a math tutor is to help each student develop their math skills in a positive and constructive way to allow them to accomplish their own goals. I'm a retired engineer and math teacher with a love for teaching anyone who wants to learn. As an engineer, I regularly used all levels of math (from arithmetic through calculus), statistics, and physics. I hold a Califo [more]

This is probably my second or third favorite subject from school years. I have tutored Algebra I for quite some time and have a love of presenting the problems and working with students to get them understanding and having knowledge of working through problems. Some of my best areas here are: word problems, monomials/binomials and polynomials and simplifying these, solving quadratic equations, and graphing figures. I have been working with a couple of students in my other job, online tutoring, for at least two years. I've seen them progress in the subject and am confident teaching it. Would lo [more]

I have been teaching science since 1999. I've taught biology, chemistry, human anatomy/physiology, physical science, ecology and health. I have tutored in chemistry and biology. I love to teach students one on one. I am not a "natural" at science. I've had to work to gain my knowledge, and then to teach it. As a result, I've gained an understanding of the difficulties many students face in trying to do well in science when it doesn't come easy. I have a way of explaining content that simply m... [more]

I break down Algebra 1 into the major classes of fundamental problems that will be presented. From each fundamental problem, we will work from the base easiest example and then increase in complexity. I also help the student to establish a general organizational scheme for solving math problems. This ability will extend far beyond the subject we are covering. I teach all subjects with the same fundamental process. I evaluate a student's baseline ability and identify the types of thinking skills that can be developed. I then design specific homework assignments and "brain exercises" to not [more]

I have a Masters in Mathematics. I am a former mathematics instructor as Sonoma State University. I have taught high school algebra there and as well as tutoring it privately for many years. I have a Masters in Mathematics and am a former instructor at Sonoma State University. I like to keep things simple. Instead of presenting the student with a parade of ideas, I help the student to see each new topic as simply a new expression of ideas they already know. At the end, the student sees all of algebra as essentially an expression of these first few ideas. I find this approach makes learning mu [more]
