As an Engineer, I found math to be my most valuable tool, useful in all sorts of applications. As a math teacher working with many students, I found that a lot of people struggle with the subject for a variety of reasons. My goal as a math tutor is to help each student develop their math skills in a positive and constructive way to allow them to accomplish their own goals. I'm a retired engineer and math teacher with a love for teaching anyone who wants to learn. As an engineer, I regularly used all levels of math (from arithmetic through calculus), statistics, and physics. I hold a Califo [more]

6 years math teacher 15 years math tutor I have been working as a tutor for 16 years. I worked with students as a peer tutor, then as a professional tutor after obtaining my Bachelor's degree and teaching credential. My favorite part of tutoring is watching my students' faces light up when they have an "ah-ha" moment. It is extremely fulfilling for me to have the opportunity to work with students in small groups and one on one rather than in a whole classroom setting. In addition to tutoring, I have been a classroom teacher ... [more]

I am a graduate of San Francisco State University with a degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology and a minor in Chemistry. I have been tutoring and teaching math and the sciences now for several years. I am passionate about science, and communicating that passion to others. My teaching strategy is a combination of various elements. I am a big believer in the idea that the best way to learn is to teach. To that end, I ask many questions to encourage the student to teach me what they know a... [more]

I have a Masters in Mathematics and am a former instructor at Sonoma State University. I like to keep things simple. Instead of presenting the student with a parade of ideas, I help the student to see each new topic as simply a new expression of ideas they already know. At the end, the student sees all of algebra as essentially an expression of these first few ideas. I find this approach makes learning mu [more]

Having taught Algebra for over 8 years, I am well aware of the areas where students often falter and know how to create approaches unique to each student that will work to make a truly independent thinker. Algebras I&II are the very foundations for all lower-division work in university mathematics. Feeling caught in a maze of symbols? I can help. I am a retired California credentialed mathematics teacher, with experience successfully guiding students through, not only my favorite subjects on Trig and Precalculus, but also Algebra I & II, Geometry and Calculus. I have a MSc in Physics and my research experience is in astrophysics. Spanish is my native language. I started tutoring since I was in third year in college, my dad (who's also a physicist) worked as a teacher for 40 years so I guess I inherited his passion for teaching. The first student I had, a middle school student, who used to fail math every year, and then his mom contacted me and we started working together, by the end of the year he was one of the best students of his class and now h... I graduated in 2016 with my bachelor's degree in Education and a minor in Physics. I've always wanted to be an educator, and I currently work with college students. As a graduate student, I continue to devote my time to learning, and helping others to learn as well gives me great joy. I minored in physics in college, which meant a lot of math classes! In high school, I was valedictorian due in large part to my high grades in math. I received a 5 on my AP Calculus BC test as well. Durin... [more]
