Math has always been my favorite subject. It may be something to do with my background of coming from Japan. I scored top 10% on SAT and even had an offer to purse an engineering degree at University of Massachusetts when I graduated from high school. Although I ended up getting a degree in a different field, my passion in teaching grew while I was in graduate school. For the past ten years, I have been teaching math to K through 8th grade students as a tutor. Not only I'm knowledgeable on math concepts, but my strength as a tutor is patience and kindness. My ultimate goal for my student [more]

I focus on keeping the strategies simple in algebra. Many strategies cross over to several different kinds of problems. Once these patterns for strategies are learned, new problems don't seem as mysterious. With over 15 years of tutoring experience and having graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Applied Mathematics from UCLA, I am among the most qualified math tutors available. I have been tutoring students in everything from Pre-Algebra through Calculus and Statistics. I enjoy the subtleties of mathematics and find it greatly fulfilling when I see my students gain a greater insight [more]

I began tutoring Algebra 1 to my peers when I took the course myself in the seventh grade; I was even granted the privilege of teaching the class for a day! I am able to break down the concepts in a way that makes them easier for students to understand, while having a little fun in the process. While I teach Math from elementary through Algebra 2, approximately 20% of my students every year are Algebra 1. Mastery of Algebra 1 is essential for success in subsequent Math courses, so I ensure that all of my students have solid comprehension in this subject. [more]

Systems of equations, inequalities, trigonometry, exponential functions, radical expressions, etc. provide the basis for a lot of advanced mathematics that is needed in advanced applications in college and beyond. I honestly do believe that algebra 1 is one of the best investments in terms of time spent studying/reward for a high school student. Sometimes students find it a little bit dry as there are many rules and techniques to remember. But, a good teacher can throw in there some interesting problems to spice things up a little. For example, students often wonder what is all the fuss abo [more]
