When it comes to math, Algebra is my first love. I find with my students that many of their problems with Algebra can be fixed with careful review of strategies for solving the different categories of equations. Algebra is my very favorite subject to tutor. Besides that, true memorization of math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division)~so that students instantly know the answers, will go a long way in improving the math grades. Tutoring while guiding the student is my purpose. I believe that all students can learn and become high achievers if they are given the appropriat [more]

As a professional Karate instructor for five years with a second degree black belt in Wado Karate, I have experience tutoring students of all ages, both in large groups and individually. As a high school Salutatorian, I am well versed in every area of general education, and I scored 5's (the highest possible) on no less than six Advanced Placement tests. I currently tutor half a dozen happy students in fields of History, Pre-Calculus, English, and Chemistry. As a college Valedictorian, from t... [more]

Mathematics has always been one of my favorite subjects. I have taken college level courses in algebra and teaching mathematics. At my last school, I taught algebra to high school students on an individual basis, much like tutoring, using several different computer platforms. I also taught algebra to students in small groups, according to what skills they needed to pass the AIMS test. I believe that knowing how to work with fractions is essential to success in algebra. This is an area that many students have difficulty with. I teach my students operations with fractions, using numbers first [more]

Hello, my name is Dr. Kelly, and I am well versed in mathematics, physics, and the medical sciences. I got my undergraduate degrees in physics and economics and my doctor of naturopathic medicine degree from SCNM. I currently teach anatomy and physiology. I believe that a good tutor gets to know their student and understands what THEIR problems are and attends to them instead of just trying to hammer all the concepts into their head. In my experience, even the most abstract mathematical or ... [more]

My background in higher education is extensive, having completed a B.S. in Biological Anthropology and Anatomy from Duke University, a B.S. in Physics from Arizona State University, and now I am currently working to complete my Ph.D in Computational Biophysics at Arizona State. For the past four years I have been acting as a teaching assistant for the Arizona State University Department of Physics. While I spend most of my time teaching students how to solve problems, I also make sure to re... [more]

I tutored middle school students in a classroom environment in the spring 2017 semester. My name is Haraldo and I am a student at Mesa Community College from which I plan to transfer to Arizona State University for Mechanical Engineering. I have tutored classmates in calculus courses which require a strong understanding of algebra and trigonometry as a foundation. I have also worked for public schools where I focused on helping students in their prealgebra, algebra, and precalculus courses. I want to help others learn math because I feel it is a subject that can discourage many ... [more]

- Bachelor of Science in Mathematics - Tutor and teaching assistant in college - Taught and tutored Mathematics (and other subjects) at Naval Nuclear Power School I was a Mathematics major in college and was a teaching assistant and tutor. After graduation, I joined the United States Navy and taught math and other subjects at the Naval Nuclear Power School for five years. Following that, I had a 27-year career as an actuary. I enjoy helping students learn how to solve problems. I emphasize the "why" as much as the "how". I tutored math in college and in the Navy. I have patience and [more]

What is Algebra 1? To keep it simple, I would say what I do with the student in the subject. I help the student understand how to manipulate mathematical expressions in order to simplify them, solve an equation or graphically represent expressions. I try to make students identify the key concepts and apply them in performing the operations mentioned above. Hi, My name is Tsihugwa, which can be a tongue twister so friends call me Zee and students call me Mr. Zee. I have been a teacher/tutor for almost 28 years having first taught musical instruments in 1984. I graduated with Bachelor of Scienc [more]

Algebra I is the basis for all higher math. This is where the concepts begin to get really abstract and it is very important to be able to find ways to visualize what is happening. If one can create a picture of what is happening in one?s mind, one can then remember the concepts and apply them to the situations which will be used in geometry and onwards. One of the ways I help students with this is by having them use what I call a ?trivial example?, which is an example of the rule which is so easy that I can?t get it wrong! This can help a student check the correct method even in a high-s [more]

I passed the TExES Math 4-8 and Math 8-12 exams required of aspiring teachers. This included basic math, algebra, geometry, trig, pre-calc, and probability & statistics. My approach is to simplify the more challenging topics through practical, everyday applications (whenever possible). With a Master of Education degree from Harvard University, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, as well as teaching experience abroad, I have positioned myself to be able to coach, to tutor, and/or to nurture others. Online or face-to-face, my greatest passion in life is helping people get from where th [more]
