I have over 1,000+ hours tutoring math, specifically: algebra I, II, and (P)SAT math. Greetings! I believe that the journey of test prep mastery allows students an incredible opportunity to become their best selves - laying the foundations for success in the years ahead. During this process, I help students become more efficient learners by practicing smarter-not-harder study habits and teaching them executive function skills such as time management, focus, and clarifying priorities. This leads to higher grades, more free time for their interests, merit scholarships, and t... [more]

Finding solutions to algebraic equations and inequalities can be fun! I actually enjoy teaching and doing math through the 9th grade level. Solving for x can be like solving a mystery or doing an experiment. If Algebra is not your "thing" and your student needs some help, I am ready to come to the rescue. A few years ago, I tutored a high school junior who was at the 3rd grade level in math. One year later, she passed Algebra and graduated with her class!* * RESULTS NOT TYPICAL! I have 20+ years of experience working one on one with K-12 students and adults. Many have had special needs [more]

Pre-Algebra and Algebra: I have tutored these subjects off and on for about 20 years. I most recently co-taught an Algebra 1 class in the Westminster School District, and I tutored students in Algebra 1 in Boulder Valley School District. I love how we can use Algebra in real life situations. When I help students to bridge between the math-talk and real life, it sets up their foundation for higher math, and their confidence as budding mathematicians. I've tutored off and on over the last 20 years, and taught professionally as a PhD educated, licensed teacher for 6 years. As a professional edu [more]

I have taught algebra 1 (both accelerated and regular-paced) in the classroom to numerous students. I have also tutored students in the subject regularly after school. Students have reported increased skills and positive learning outcomes after taking my class. I am an experienced high school math teacher and tutor who has worked with students from 6-12th grades, having taught or tutored nearly every level of math from pre-algebra through AP Calculus (algebra 1, algebra 2, geometry, trigonometry pre-calculus, probability and statistics, SAT and ACT prep). When I was a student I experience [more]

When you or your youngster hear the phrase "Word Problem," does "YUCK" pop into your head? Well, I believe that we deal with Algebra every day. When we follow a recipe...Algebra! Why I teach: It?s all about bringing people to that moment: ?hey, I get it! ? wow, I did it!? Coaching and facilitating others to reach new learning and new accomplishments ? there is nothing better! As an analytical thinker, I love math and opportunities to apply it. Along the way, I have been able to enjoy different, challenging careers that build on this. In the corporate world after grad school, I developed my expertise in the field of research methods and statistics, mining data for... [more]

I passed WyzAnt's tests for algebra I and II with scores of 100%. I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a B.S. degree in chemistry, with a specialization in biochemistry. I completed two years of undergraduate research in a biochemistry research lab working on enzyme kinetics and bacterial antibiotic resistance. I did complete graduate level biochemistry courses as an undergraduate and was on the Dean's List for a few semesters. I have been published on two separate papers as a fourth author and second author in Cell Chemical Biology and J. Bacteriology ... [more]

Having taught Algebra I at the high school level and having taken a graduate level Algebra methods course have helped me build a repertoire of tools that students use to become proficient. Each learning path is unique, but the pyramid of knowledge, from the informal to generalized or abstract concepts, must be built. To this end, I strive to use multiple representations so the student can apply this knowledge. Finally putting my job aside to pursue my passion, I left engineering and completed both a Math degree (Dean's list) and a secondary math teaching license in 2013. I tutored my way th [more]
