Algebra 1 was the first subject I tutored, 17 years ago. I still enjoy helping understand the language of algebra. Because, that is what algebra is, a new language of mathematics. This is why it can be so scary. I have tutored algebra for 17 years, 12 as a tutor for local colleges and privately, 5 years as a teacher. With all of my experience I have not lost my enthusiasm for teaching, nor my understanding of difficulties in this first foray into modern mathematics. I hope that you can learn a little of my love of it as well. [more]

My approach to tutoring is informed by my past academic struggles. When I was a freshman at Princeton, I quickly realized that my high school, located in an economically depressed area in south Texas, had not adequately prepared me for the diverse range of college coursework. Having had to overcome that, I know the frustration and self-defeating strategies--like procrastination--that students often develop and I am especially sensitive to supporting my students. Sometimes that means being ... [more]

Currently I am a teacher of Chemistry and Physics at a CA High School. Previously I have been an educational professional for 40 years, starting as a teacher of Math and Physics in High school to AP/1st year undergraduate level and I hold teaching credentials in both California and the UK. Later I taught Chemistry (the subject of my degree) to the same standard. I have many former students who have studied at the top UK Universities; Oxford, Cambridge, Bristol, Durham, Imperial London and so ... [more]

My name is Nicholas R. I am currently mathematics undergraduate at UC Santa Cruz. I have taken high level math courses up to vector calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. In the past, I have been an AVID tutor at a High School. There I helped students in algebra 2 and precalculus. I also have experience with one one one tutoring. My main focus in tutoring is making sure my students understand the material thoroughly. I help students so that they are able to complete problems ... [more]

My name is Ethan, and I'm currently enrolled at UCSB. I have always had a knack for mathematics; the concepts presented in these classes generally come easily to me. I graduated from Foothill Technology High School in 2016 as Magna Cum Laude with a 4.2 GPA and a Silver Award for 70+ community service hours. While there in my senior year, I spent several hours a week volunteering as a peer tutor in the library, assisting other students mainly in the maths. The subjects I helped most with were... [more]

Hi! I've been a tutor since high school, though my first paying tutoring gig turned up after I'd graduated and moved away for college. I've worked at college tutoring centers, private academies, and independently. My experience at tutoring centers was as a drop-in tutor -- students could arrive at the tutoring center without having made an appointment to receive a quick lesson or two. At the private academy, I was an SAT instructor for small classrooms, with no more than eight students per s... [more]

My name is Jazmine, and I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's in Biological Sciences concentrating in Anatomy and Physiology with minors in Biotechnology and Psychology. I also recently received my Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification. I have approximately 3 months of teaching experience from serving as a teacher's assistant in a college General Chemistry classroom in which I helped students during class time, during lab, and outside of class time during study sessions I hosted ... Teaching requires patience and understanding of a learner's needs, current abilities and potential. Over the course of 30 years I have helped my siblings, friends and children with various educational and learning challenges. I believe that every person has the ability to learn when they are in an environment of patience and understanding. I offer a wide range of subjects from elementary Math, English (for speakers and non-speakers), business management, finance economics and accounting. M... [more]

My specialty is tutoring students in the math and science fields. I have been tutoring students in these fields at the high school and college levels for over two years now. Specifically, my strongest fields in which I tutor are math, physics, and engineering. I am a senior level mechanical engineering student, so I am very comfortable with the material in these fields. What I love about tutoring is helping students get through the obstacles between them and understanding their course... [more]

The ability to approach a problem through different methods is the key for success in any math-based subject. During the two years and a half that I've tutored as a volunteer at my community college (under a MESA program), I learned a lot from the inquiries that college students had and, as a consequence, from my mistakes as well. I realized that the processes taught by their professors more frequently confused most of the students in science classes--such as physics, math, and chemistry. As ... [more]
