I have taught Algebra 2 for over 25 years. When tutoring I will first make sure that a student has mastered the concepts from Algebra 1. Without these students can not perform well on the problems in Algebra 2. I also work with reading skills and vocabulary. Both of these are necessary for success in mathematics. In Algebra 2, the level of difficulty increases in the types of word problems that are covered. I show students how to break down the problems into more manageable parts and show them how to draw diagrams to help clarify the problem. [more]

Completing the square, imaginary/complex numbers, solving equations with fractional exponents, graphing circles and parabolas, parallel/perpendicular lines, rational expressions and using the quadratic formula are some of the most common problems I encounter during my tutoring sessions. I use a variety of teaching methods (hands-on/manipulative make for a great change from the visual lectures) to address the problems while supporting the student's learning styles. For the last 19 years, I have been a private tutor for students from public, private and homeschooling communities. I am presently [more]

Whether students love math and science or despise them, I am usually able to make the experience better for them. I tailor tutoring sessions based on students? needs and parents? expectations. When a student is struggling, I provide specific help where it's needed. I am particularly good at making Chemistry much less painful to deal with. I am able to explain the material in understandable ways. One of the best compliments I received recently is that one of my students jokingly said to her... [more]

I am an Aurora University student majoring in Pure Math and Disability Studies. I have an Associate's Degree in Math from Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove. I have tutored Algebra 1 and 2 since 2013. I emphasize George Polya's four problem solving steps: understand the problem, devise a plan, carry out the plan, and evaluate. I live for the lightbulb moment! My goal is to create lasting learning. I understand how the schools teach, and that their way is not always how the student learns best. I offer the one- on-one, customized learning a student needs for success, without the distr [more]
