This year I have had a lot of algebra 2 honors students. One of them came to me with a 28 grade point average. She now has a 90+ grade point average. As I share a few insights, they can often grasp and succeed in areas of algebra 2 that prior were not understood. Success is often a state of mind and I approach tutoring with the idea that the student feel like they are succeeding in even the smallest areas of improvement. This often carries over to making their dreams of not only passing but increasing their grades by many letters come true. [more]

I recently relocated from the northeast to Wesley Chapel, FL in order to be closer to family and be as far away from those cold snowy winters as possible. For the better part of 10 years I played professional poker, which requires a high level of intelligence, keen observation and adaptability, and a strong foundation in mathematics. On top of that, I started a private SAT prep business with a former English Professor in Philadelphia in 2004. He took care of the English, I took care of t... [more]

Algebra is still a level of mathematics that can be fun to the general student. I take the first lesson to listen to the student speak about his/her frustrations and "failures" and to go over basic math... to determine his/her level and weaknesses. In this first lesson, I will also reteach some of the algebra basics that most teachers assume the student already knows. If the student is currently in algebra, I teach from the student's book, as well as augment it with problems and handouts of my own. I will explain concepts in multiple ways, until one clicks.
