Algebra II and College Algebra are fairly similar, and I teach both more often that almost any subject (next to Geometry perhaps). I have been teaching this subject for over five years now, and have the topics down to a science. There is a clean progression from topic to topic when Algebra II is taught correctly, and with my experience the class can be made to be enjoyable and fully understandable. I hold a Bachelors in Secondary Mathematics Education from USF, and I taught for 5 years in both public and private schools teaching math and science. As the oldest of four, I have tutored since a v [more]

This year I have had a lot of algebra 2 honors students. One of them came to me with a 28 grade point average. She now has a 90+ grade point average. As I share a few insights, they can often grasp and succeed in areas of algebra 2 that prior were not understood. Success is often a state of mind and I approach tutoring with the idea that the student feel like they are succeeding in even the smallest areas of improvement. This often carries over to making their dreams of not only passing but increasing their grades by many letters come true. [more]

Algebra 2 is a subject the I encounter often as a tutor at Hillsborough Community College. I have much experience in teaching and tutoring in this subject. I feel extremely comfortable in this subject and have many ways of relating the material to students. I began college as a tuba/jazz performance major and at some point realized that music was not the path for me. While taking my general education requirements, I came to find that I enjoy the thrill of math and science. I still work as a musician but appreciate music more because of my math skills. Algebra is still a level of mathematics that can be fun to the general student. I take the first lesson to listen to the student speak about his/her frustrations and "failures" and to go over basic math... to determine his/her level and weaknesses. In this first lesson, I will also reteach some of the algebra basics that most teachers assume the student already knows. If the student is currently in algebra, I teach from the student's book, as well as augment it with problems and handouts of my own. I will explain concepts in multiple ways, until one clicks. I fell in love with teaching at a young age. It started in high school when I began tutoring my peers for gas money. Quickly I realized that this wasn't just something I was doing for money, it was my passion. My client base exploded and after school I would travel to my client's houses until 8-9 pm. This led me to begin teaching after college. I have over 5 years of experience in the classroom, teaching everything from middle school math, to honors trigonometry. There is nothing that exci...
