My years of experience tutoring students (and teaching Algebra 2 in public schools) has given me an excellent understanding of the connections throughout the secondary curriculum. I am able to explain to students how their prior knowledge can be applied to new material, as well as motivate them by explaining how they'll use the information in future classes. Algebra 2 is one of my favorite courses, because students' understanding of what they learned in Algebra 1 is deepened and expanded; they begin to understand more of the "why" in addition to the "how". I love tutoring because of the experiences I've had as a student. In my experiences at Richard Montgomery High School's rigorous IB Magnet Program and Stanford University, I've learned how large of a difference a good teacher can make. I also have learned that hard work and dedication to academics pays off. Everybody learns differently - as a student, I memorized songs and created flow charts to study for my AP, IB, SAT, and ACT tests. It took creativity and experimentation to find the learni... [more]

I'm a high school math teacher going on my 3rd year of teaching, but I have 9 years of tutoring experience. I have worked with students across the spectrum in age, socioeconomic background, and ethnicity, and have always been able to help them come to a better understanding of math. While I was in college and considering the career I wanted to pursue, I realized that something I absolutely cherish is helping people achieve their "light bulb moment" - when the mind comes to an understanding an...
