I have over 6 years of Advanced Algebra tutoring. I taught myself the fundamentals of algebra in the second grade, so my understanding of concepts has been with me for most of my life. My name is Seth. I have loved math every since I was a little kid. It was the subject that always made sense to me and I found fun in the ability to solve problems. This passion that I have is shown in my tutoring style. I try to show how math isn't just a lame subject, but try to show how to be enthusiastic about it. I have tutored almost every subject in math while I was a math teacher at Sylvan Learning Cent [more]

*At this time, I am only accepting ACT students. Please read my full bio for a description of how I approach preparing students for the exam. In his eighth year of tutoring, Thore has logged thousands of one-on-one hours with students. Named a National Merit Scholar in 2008, he holds a Bachelor of Music in vocal performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Norwegian from St. Olaf College, graduating summa cum laude and with distinction in both degrees. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, an acad... [more]

I graduated from Oberlin College with a Bachelor's degree in Biology and minors in Mathematics and French. My philosophy with helping students stems from what I found engaging and enlightening in my own education - discussion and exploration of ideas. By framing sessions as a conversation more than a traditional lecture, in my experience students often gain a more complete understanding of, and greater comfort with, concepts than by memorization alone. I also find that, by addressing students... [more]

Yes, it is literally true; I won Tutor of the Year at Madison College (MATC) in 2011, working almost exclusively as a math tutor. (I started off as a Spanish tutor.) I LOVE math and traditionally have worked well with people who DON'T love math or struggle with it. I can cover all or algebra from memory; about 90% of trig as well (although for a few topics a heads-up would help so I can review); and I will be reviewing my calc soon so I can offer that as well. (I have taken it through C... [more]

I took this course in high school and received an A in it. I am math and physics major and understand the concepts very thoroughly and can explain them very well. I understand that math is a series of stepping stones to learning and am willing to work with students to help them grasp it every step of the way. I am currently an undergraduate student at the University of Richmond who is double majoring in Physics and Mathematical Economics with a minor in Math. I am currently an undergraduate research student in a biophysics lab work under a PhD recipient to analyzing fibrins in the body to see [more]

I am currently finishing an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Washington and a proficiency in Algebra is fundamental in this field. Before enrolling at UW I was a head math tutor at Seattle Central Community College and tutored Algebra extensively. Each student learns differently and I prided myself in my ability to present the material in a way which resonated with the student. Hello students and/or parents and thanks for checking out my profile! I am an Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Washington who moved to Madison in Aug of 2016 to begin a PhD p [more]

On my way to my PhD in physics I had to learn the same math that is troubling you now. I am confident that I can make it clear to you. As an experienced and patient tutor of physics and of math subjects through calculus and college first year linear algebra and differential equations, my great delight is in seeing the "light bulb" of comprehension in my students' faces. These subjects are not as difficult as they often seem to my students before they meet with me. My concrete illustrations and introductory exercises have been highly successful in getting students on track for academic success [more]

I have had experience in high school being an SAT tutor for math and English for Kumon, and in college when I TA'd general biology lab and tutored students in biochemistry as a work study. My approach to tutoring is more one-on-one and visual rather than lecturing general information from textbooks. I come prepared with example problems that increase in difficulty and diagrams to help them grasp the lesson as I am also a visual learner. I enjoy teaching because I feel fulfilled when my ... I love children of all ages and especially love helping them succeed. I have two toddlers of my own and while they don't have homework yet they definitely love to learn, which is a rewarding experience every single day. I'm looking to tutor children in grade school or middle school who need some help with algebra, reading or English. Learning in school was always fun for me so I look forward to making it fun for the next generation of kids. As for my experience, I have a bachelors d... [more]

Hello! My name is Lauren E. and I am a mathematics teacher at Portage High School. I primarily teach algebra and geometry currently but I have experience with middle school curriculum, algebra 2 and precalculus. While completing college at the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay I tutored students 1-1 and in groups. I have always enjoyed teaching students in a tutoring setting. I believe that any student should have the opportunity for affordable tutoring. Whether you need help passing a ... [more]
