My areas of expertise is Pre-Algebra up to Algebra 2/Trigonometry, although I can tutor in other subjects such as Discrete Math and Pre-Calculus as well (if given a day notice, so I can brush up on my skills ;)). I have 3 years full-time teaching experience and over 6 years... [more]

I have taught Algebra 2 for over 25 years. When tutoring I will first make sure that a student has mastered the concepts from Algebra 1. Without these students can not perform well on the problems in Algebra 2. I also work with reading skills and vocabulary. Both of these are necessary for success in mathematics. In Algebra 2, the level of difficulty increases in the types of word problems that are covered. I show students how to break down the problems into more manageable parts and show them how to draw diagrams to help clarify the problem. [more]

Whether students love math and science or despise them, I am usually able to make the experience better for them. I tailor tutoring sessions based on students? needs and parents? expectations. When a student is struggling, I provide specific help where it's needed. I am particularly good at making Chemistry much less painful to deal with. I am able to explain the material in understandable ways. One of the best compliments I received recently is that one of my students jokingly said to her... [more]

I have experience as a teaching assistant at Wheaton for the past two years, and in high school I was an assistant at Kumon, an after-school math and reading program. Additionally, I have tutored local high school and coll... [more]

I completed implementing the Glencoe Common Core Algebra II curriculum at my high school that gave our students the highest math growth and highest score for the south side of Chicago. I had students create and use math interactive notebooks as they learned everything from factoring to graphing higher degree polynomials. I taught all Algebra II concepts by starting with lower level concepts so students can identify higher level problems and then develop strong critical thinking skills to be great problem-solvers. I have taught the course at 1 high school and the equivalent courses (College Algebra, Trig or both) at 6 colleges. I tutored at every school that I taught at as well as students at other high schools or colleges studying the material. I wrote an Algebra 2 textbook and tutored students using it both by phone and by email. I have taught at 7 different colleges (public, private, and technical). I received awards for my teaching based on student evaluations - mostly because I am patient and take time to tutor students having trouble. I have also written high school math textbooks. I know math and [more]
