With over two decades of experience in mathematical instruction, I have achieved amazing results with my students. In the classroom, my state and national test scores rank among the highest in the state of Tennessee. For every type of algebra question, I am able to guide students through the most efficient and effective path of problem solving while significantly boosting the student's confidence. I have educated and inspired college, high school, and middle school students for twenty five years as a mathematics instructor, specializing in calculus but capable of teaching all levels of math. Algebra 2 can sometimes take students by surprise as it ramps up the difficulty level above that of algebra 1. I focus on taking what students have already learned in algebra 1 and showing them that they are still applying the same concepts to this more difficult problem. Algebra has always been one of my favorite subjects to do and teach. There are always so many different ways to find the value of an unknown variable and I love that all of them always come to the same conclusion. My students always tell me that I am very good at breaking down a complex problem into small steps, and the proc [more]

I have worked as a tutor while obtaining my Master's in Biomedical Sciences. I have effectively worked with college students to help improve their Prealgebra, Algebra I, and Algebra II skills. Hi I'm Courtland! I have just received my M.D. from the University of Louisville, I have a Master's in Biomedical Sciences, and a B.A. in Neuroscience from Vanderbilt University. My experience with tutoring all began during my years at Vanderbilt, as I tutored my peers. While earning my master's degree, I continued to gain tutoring experience while working with the students at Georgia Gwinnett College. [more]

"The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled." - Plutarch One of the greatest gifts that someone can give to someone else is time. My belief system when tutoring students is to ensure that I give each person the time to utilize their cognitive ability to develop solutions. Coupled with activating prior knowledge, building upon their foundational skill set as well as developing their confidence level with the material allows me to have a high success rate with my stude... I recently taught high school math in Davidson County for four years and worked directly with the ACT prep program. I am currently working to open my own after school enrichment program and would like to help students all over middle Tennessee improve their math skills while I put it together. The Fall semester is just half way through and already our focus is on Winter Exams, the ACT/SAT, and college applications and scholarships. The December SAT and ACT dates are fast approaching and the ... [more]

I have completed a math minor with straight As, and as a current economics graduate student, I'm always doing algebra. I'm a current Ph.D. student at Vanderbilt in Economics. I'm entering my 4th year, and I have plenty of experience with tutoring, teaching, and helping students learn! In fact, I won the Rendig Fels Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching for 2017, I am about to obtain my Certificate in College Teaching from Vanderbilt, and I will be creating and teaching my own Principles of Macroeconomics course this summer. I will be working for Vanderbilt's tutoring lab in the fall. Eve [more]

Algebra is the start of solving for the unknown. If at any point in time you have solved the mathematical problem, 2+2=, you have done algebra. If you look at it from this standpoint, you now have a foundation to build from. My purpose is to provide you assistance for the short term so that you are capable of standing on your own two feet in solving algebraic equations. I graduated from MIT and have been applying these concepts for the course of my career. I enjoy helping students achieve their academic goals and becoming successful. I would like to provide the same opportunity for you. [more]

I have been tutoring at a high school in Nashville, TN for a little over a year now and I absolutely adore it. I love helping students achieve that "light bulb" moment where they feel empowered and ready to take on the world. I believe in tutoring being a fun, uplifting experience, and something that the student walks away from feeling encouraged. Learning should never feel like a chore or something to "check off" a list, and I hope I can change the mindset surrounding school in general. M... [more]

I think it is only fair that I admit upfront that I have never taught full-time nor do I hold a teacher's license. What I do have is plenty of experience working in teaching situations varying from Vacation Bible School to guest lecturing for graduate level business classes. A little about me: I completed my undergraduate studies in Mathematics and Political Science at Vanderbilt University, earning honors in both tracts. I also have a Masters in Finance from Vanderbilt's Graduate School of B... [more]
