I have completed a math minor with straight As, and as a current economics graduate student, I'm always doing algebra. I am a fourth year Ph.D. student at Vanderbilt in Economics, with three years experience as a TA in courses from intermediate to graduate. I was also selected to be one of just five graduate student instructors over the summer, designing and teaching an intro to economics course. You don't have to take my word for it- you can see all of my teaching evaluations, totally unedited, at MatKnudson.com/teaching . Aside from my experience, I also have formal training. Algebra is the start of solving for the unknown. If at any point in time you have solved the mathematical problem, 2+2=, you have done algebra. If you look at it from this standpoint, you now have a foundation to build from. My purpose is to provide you assistance for the short term so that you are capable of standing on your own two feet in solving algebraic equations. I graduated from MIT and have been applying these concepts for the course of my career. I enjoy helping students achieve their academic goals and becoming successful. I would like to provide the same opportunity for you. [more]

I recently taught high school math in Davidson County for four years and worked directly with the ACT prep program. I am currently working to open my own after school enrichment program and would like to help students all over middle Tennessee improve their math skills while I put it together. The Fall semester is just half way through and already our focus is on Winter Exams, the ACT/SAT, and college applications and scholarships. The December SAT and ACT dates are fast approaching and the ... [more]

I have taken several SOL practice tests online. I use the same Algebra 2 textbook used in FCPS. I am familiar with the curriculum and know a few Algebra 2 teachers in the area. In Algebra 2, students learn about many types of functions including polynomials, sequences, and inequalities. If students are not proficient in lower-level concepts, such as properties of numbers or basic algebra, I will spend time to improve their understanding since math builds upon itself. In my several years as an algebra tutor, I've learned that visual explanations are the most helpful, particularly in inequalities, so I will be using many graphs. I also prefer students to learn concepts independently of a calculator. Though calculators compute faster, it is very important to understand [more]

I am going on my fourth year as an instructor at the college level. I have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and a master's degree in mathematics, which makes for a unique perspective on the purpose of math and its application in the world around us. Unlike most professors, I teach entirely introductory mathematics courses, which include algebra, precalculus, and calculus. Combined with a more than a decade of one-on-one private tutoring, this makes me an expert in knowing both w... [more]

I have a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Alabama and in addition to teaching college level general and nursing Chemistry labs, I have always enjoyed helping students to better understand what they are being taught in class. I strongly believe that no matter how hard it might be to understand chemistry courses, that by focusing on handful of fundamental concepts makes learning any chemistry topic fairly painless and fun. I am patient with students and always do my best to promote a ... [more]
