I have taught math to junior and senior high school students (including Algebra 1 and 2) for over 30 years, and have assisted students in doing well on the NY State Math Regents exam. I have also tutored many students in math, and have helped raise their scores significantly. I am very well equipped to be a math tutor, having taught math to junior and senior high school students in private schools in the Riverdale-Manhattan area for over 30 years. In this capacity, I have trained students to master Algebra, Geometry, and Trig, as well as basic mathematics, with excellent results. In my posi [more]

I help develop self confidence and test-taking skills. My tutoring approach is based on working with a student to determine his or her strengths and then figuring out how to build upon that student's confidence with the subject matter. I think utilizing analogies can be a powerful tool to make the learning process more personal. My background and qualification cover a wide array of subjects; which I believe is helpful to finding such strengths in others. I can help students even when they ... [more]

The quadratic formula is presented, along with an introduction to complex numbers. The laws of exponents are extended to the cases of zero, negative and fractional exponents. The idea of a function and its inverse is introduced. Extensive use is made of exponential and logarithmic functions, including graphing and solving equations. Applications include compound interest problems and radioactive decay. Additional topics include the geometric series and the binomial theorem. I have 15 years experience teaching Mathematics at the High School and early College level. In High School, I have taug [more]

Algebra 2 represents the first subject matter that students who happen to dislike math will start tuning out due to the difficulty level. The curriculum typically introduces more advanced algebraic concepts and functions. With proper, customized instruction, even students who view themselves as being bad with numbers can see improvement in their understanding as a one-on-one tutoring context provides the best environment for building these critical quantitative skills. Hello, Thanks for taking a look at my profile! Please review my subject qualifications, student feedback, and detailed descri [more]

I'm a recent graduate from The Cooper Union with a Bachelor of Engineering in Chemical Engineering. Algebra is an essential cornerstone of Mathematics and Engineering; thus, I used it a great deal in my undergraduate education. In pure Mathematics courses, like Linear Algebra, Calculus and Differential Equations, I received high marks. More notably, I was able to successfully use this fundamental knowledge to manipulate equations in advanced Chemical Engineering coursework, like Control Systems and Fluid Transport. [more]

The principles required for mastery of both Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 are identical. The expression of these principles, however, is a little different. The hurdles people usually confront with Algebra 2 come mainly from their relying on memorizing procedures and rules. The only problem with that is as you memorize more and more material, you'll eventually come to a point where you'll have trouble distinguishing one formula from another and even when to apply them. To excel in math is to comprehend, and that's exactly what I help my students do. We build from the fundamentals and continue bui [more]

Hello students and parents, My name is Justin, and I am a software engineer at Google in NYC. In my spare time, I do private tutoring with a specialization in math, computer science, and SAT/ACT prep. I enjoy working with students and sharing my passion for math & CS. It is always my goal to not only help students understand the concepts, but also to make things fun by explaining real life applications.
