Most of what is taught in this course has application in science - lot of functions, graphing, and polynomial equations. I use this math all the time with my chemistry students. This makes me especially good at the word problems you find in Algebra II. My whole approach to teaching can be summed up by a quote from Albert Einstein: "Imagination is More Important than Knowledge." I teach for long-term retention of concepts - not short term retention of facts. In today's connected world, the facts are at our fingertips. It's what we know how to do with those facts that matters! My tutoring sessio [more]

In Algebra 2, students take the skills they've mastered in Algebra 1 (representing unknowns with variables, manipulating variable expressions and equations, etc.) and go on a function safari, visiting the various kinds of functions they'll use in all future pursuits in continuous math: -Quadratic Functions -Cubic Functions -Higher-order Polynomial Functions -Exponential and Logarithmic Functions -Rational Functions -Radical Functions -Trigonometric Functions Whew! With possible forays into conic sections, the binomial theorem, sequences and series, finance, etc. There often isn't time in the [more]
