I taught algebra 2 my last year teaching high school. I know the subject well and can explain it in a way that students at any level can understand. When I was in High School, I had a math teacher who didn't teach us anything. She gave us a packet and made us figure it out for ourselves. I ended up having to teach myself and most of my classmates and realized that I love the feeling of helping someone understand something new. So I decided to become a math teacher. I graduated from BYU in Math Education with a minor in Spanish Teaching, then moved to Los Angeles and taught High School Math [more]

Algebra 2 is a course designed to get you ready to take College Algebra. It brings all of the previous algebra together and then expands upon that knowledge. Most of the mistakes that occur in this class come from a poor foundation in basic skills such as fractions and factoring. If you have depended upon the calculator to do the math for you, you may struggle with rationals and radicals that include variables. Then at the end of the course, it becomes very helpful to learn matrices with and without a calculator. If you are planning on taking your college algebra at UVU, be aware that you [more]

I have a Bachelors degree in mathematics and have tutored Algebra 2 for the past year both one-on-one and in small groups. I'm Krystel! I graduated from Brigham Young University in Mathematics. I have been tutoring high school students in math for the past year and loved it. My favorite thing is to watch students become confident in their ability to think through any of the problems they may come across. That is why I think developing intuition with problems is a vital step to tutoring. It is inevitable that we will come across classes we don't like or that we have a hard time understanding. I am working on an electrical engineering degree at BYU and have spent six years substitute teaching or tutoring. I love helping people understand new things, and have been 'translating' between teachers and students since I was in elementary school. I try to adjust my tutoring to the style a given student seems to learn from best. One thing I do try to be consistent about is allowing students to do as much as they can with what they know already, and then providing support or instruction w... [more]

While in these jobs, I had the great opportunity of working with bright minds and helping them learn subjects that I loved. When I took the ACT in high school,... [more]
