I have been teaching math for about 18 years and am a certified Virginia Public School Teacher. I currently work with a few students in SAT math tutoring as well as Algebra 2 and have seen my students make great strides while looking at Algebra from a different perspective. I am excited for the semi-recent move here to SW Virginia, Roanoke and the NRV. I have been a tutor privately for the last 7 years in Northern Virginia in all subjects, as well as SAT and ACT test prep. I am a teaching veteran of 24 years and am looking forward to working with the students in Montgomery Co Public Schools a [more]

Mechanical Engineering requires extensive use of algebra. I have years of experience successfully tutoring junior high, high school and college students in all possible variations of algebra topics. My degrees are in Mechanical Engineering and Physics. Math, Physics and Engineering are my main areas and I have a solid record of success helping students as a tutor. Most have improved by two grade points. Recently, I earned a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech and won an award from ASME for my dissertation work. I am patient, easy going and enjoy helping students succee [more]

I'm a certified math teacher, who has tutored students in algebra II for a few years. In addition, I have the equivalent of a math minor from Wheaton College (except for the computer science courses they required). Math was my strongest subject when I was in school and I love to help others understand it better! I am a certified math teacher, experienced tutor, and home-schooling mother of four, who loves children and whose greatest joy is working one-on-one with people to help them realize their full potential. I'm Tim, a senior Chemistry student at Virginia Tech. I graduated from Ocean Lakes High School's Math and Science Academy with an advanced studies diploma. In high school, I was fortunate to have academy teachers who cared significantly for the understanding and success of their students. I work to emulate that approach in my own teaching, be it helping friends with homework or running test review sessions in my residence hall. I try to model teaching as an open dialogue rather than a lectur... [more]

My teaching style has developed into anyone can learn math. The catch to this is finding a way to reach all the different learning styles and thought processes of the students. I have had to adapt to the group of students in each class to help them to get the most of the course. I have tried in my variety of course from developmental math to statistics and calculus to reach different learning styles. I use different colors of markers to illustrate different steps in solving problems to help ... [more]

While I was in the army I was my unit's designated Education NCO. That means that I helped soldiers sign up for classes and use their education benefits, as well as helping them prep for entrance exams and CLEP tests. While finishing up my own degree I worked as a tutor in Excel and Accounting. I understand not only how to do the problems, but what the real world implications and applications of Statistics theory is. Showing students why they would need to use the formulas allows them...
