I find that students have a wide range of needs and learning styles. Some students just need a little extra boost to get them through a tough spot in a class. Some students need someone to sit with them while doing homework to keep them on track. Some students need coaching on how to even approach the study Math or Physics. Some students learn better by having concepts explained clearly. Some students learn better if they are asked a series of leading questions, so that they find the answers ... [more]

I taught AP & IB Physics for six years in the late 90's, with exceptional success for my students on all AP and IB exams. I've also taught regular physics (as opposed to college prep). And I taught Algebra 1 through Calculus in rural Louisiana through the Teach For America program before I got licensed to teach physics. These and other teaching jobs involved quite a bit of one-on-one work with students. Even though I was known for guiding my students to good results on the AP and IB physic... [more]

Many students who did fine in Algebra 1 hit a wall in Algebra 2. Algebra 2 requires a robust understanding of difficult concepts like fractions, exponents and variables. In Algebra 1, you can do well by learning a few rules by rote. In Algebra 2, you either have to come to grips with the concepts, or learn way more rules--and when the rules you already know just won't work. I will work with you to help you remember those rules, but not even mathematicians remember all the rules all the time. The good news is that there's always more than one way to tackle a problem, and I can teach you strat [more]

I have taught or tutored students in Pre-algebra through Calculus. I am also an engineer, and I enjoy a variety of hobbies like cooking and weaving, so we can always find concrete examples of concepts. I have had great success helping students understand and learn how to attack word problems and solve equations. I have a bachelor's degree and PhD in Chemical Engineering and held a teaching license for high school chemistry and physics. I have tutored studen [more]

I'm an experienced tutor, and have many excellent references to show for it. The subjects I typically tutor are Geometry, Algebra, Precalculus, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as ACT and SAT prep. I try not to go overboard and attempt to tutor every subject and test prep out there, but to specialize in the areas listed above and do them well. I am a licensed Minnesota educator, and work strictly as an individual tutor. Don't get pulled in by the tutoring factories that use a canned curric... [more]
