I have taught and tutored Algebra 2/Math 3/Trigonometry for more than a decade. Whenever possible, I make real-world applications to more deeply teach the subject. Algebra 2/Math 3 is more challenging than Algebra 1/Math 1 and follows Geometry/Math 2 so in order to receive a top grade in the class, I always tell my students to spend twice as much time on their studies and to review foundational concepts such as combining fractions, operations with negatives and factoring polynomials as often as possible. My years of experience tutoring students (and teaching Algebra 2 in public schools) has given me an excellent understanding of the connections throughout the secondary curriculum. I am able to explain to students how their prior knowledge can be applied to new material, as well as motivate them by explaining how they'll use the information in future classes. Algebra 2 is one of my favorite courses, because students' understanding of what they learned in Algebra 1 is deepened and expanded; they begin to understand more of the "why" in addition to the "how". My passion for teaching was founded by my own experience as a student. Throughout my academic career, the challenges I encountered refined my own approach to understanding subjects, and the ensuing success after overcoming such obstacles brought me further love for learning and those subjects. I want to transmit that feeling of accomplishment to students as they master their own subjects, and hopefully foster a passion for further learning and success in any of their other endeavors. As a to... [more]
