Algebra is fundamental to all follow-on mathematics. As a math major, I continued to apply algebra in other subjects throughout college. If I tutor you in algebra, I will also pass on techniques that will set you up for success in all higher math. As a math major, I provided tutoring to classmates in the full range of math subjects. Following graduation I put my math and physics to practical use in military aviation. For the last five years I have been instructing a range of aviation topics, including both classroom and hands-on contexts. All of this has involved instructing math and phys [more]

Hello students and families! My approach to tutoring is methodical. I prefer to start working with a diagnostic test to see where help is needed, and then I develop a curriculum and study schedule for families that matches a students' needs. I enjoy applying multiple approaches to problem solving and feel that a systematic approach to learning provides students with a solid knowledge base. When teaching about words I prefer to provide knowledge about their roots because that gives stud... [more]

Understanding mathematical concepts promotes creativity in solving mathematical problems. Anyone who understands math can correctly work the problems at the level of their understanding; however, it is possible to do math, even advanced math and especially with a calculator, and yet not understand any of it. Understanding offers alternatives to problem solving, and insight into the problem itself, especially when applied to physics. Confidence also is concomitant with understanding. Whe... [more]
