Algebra 2 is fundamental to so much of mathematics. I've used it in every math class I've taken and in my own independent work. But I remember when I was learning the topic myself, and so I know some ways of making the topic make sense by relating it to other areas of math and to real-world situations. I am available to tutor any area of mathematics: arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, statistics, linear algebra, differential equations, etc. I can also help with more advanced college-level topics. My experience with advanced mathematics gives me insight into how different ma [more]

I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Engineering, with a minor in History. Additionally, I went on to get a M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering. It was during my time in college that I appreciated the impact a good teacher can have on the subject matter and working to communicate this effectively to the students. Whenever it would get close to test time I would always host study sessions for the other students in my classes, we often did these with difficult homework assign... [more]

My name is Ilia. My family came from Russia in 1998. During the course of my life in the US I have gained valuable experience in education and culture of this country. I am not only bi-lingual but I also consider myself bi-cultural, which enables me to understand people from many walks of life and look at them from different standpoints. In my years in Russia I received excellent education as I attended something of an equivalent of prep schools in the US. In high school I studied physics and... [more]

The first time I needed a tutor, I was in the 9th grade. I was taking algebra and any time I came up against a question, I felt lost. My tutor walked through problems with me, explained concepts to me, and supported me. Five years later, that 9th-grader would not have believed that he would declare math to be his major in undergrad. By then, I had the confidence to take on not only algebra at the college level but also calculus, multivariable calculus, linear algebra and partial differential... [more]

About Elaine: I studied and worked through two successful careers. I earned a BA in Humanities, an MA in Media Theory and Technology and Society, and finally an M.Ed. in Integrated Curriculum. Developing myself as a highly qualified secondary mathematics teacher started with my 1st class of 6th grader students. A simple scaling lesson turned into 3-D playground designs used by the architect of their new school building. Soon after I advanced to teaching middle school student all scoring ... [more]

I have been teaching high school level math for several years. The last 2 years I have taught an Honors Algebra 2 course in addition to inclusion math. When teaching Algebra, I encourage students to list out all of their steps until the sequence becomes concrete. I also check for understanding by asking, "What is the goal?," What will you do next?," and "What does that represent?" I am a public school teacher licensed in Elementary Education, Special Education Moderate Disabilities K-8 & 8-12, and Mathematics grades 1-6, 5-8, & 8-12, as well as certified in Sheltered English Immersion.
