Learning should be fun, empowering and exciting. As with all the math subjects I tutor, I've tutored Algebra 2 a lot. Having a degree in Applied Mathematics from UCLA, I have a strong grasp of the wide array of topics they introduce in Algebra 2, from higher order polynomials to matrices; from exponents to simplifying radicals. Often times, Algebra 2 can be an overwhelming subject since it introduces so many new, seemingly-unrelated topics. I work with students to show how all this work ties together. With over 15 years of tutoring experience and having graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Applied Mathematics from UCLA, I am among t [more]

I am a high school history teacher with professional publishing and writing experience. My love of history came to life when I began studying archaeology in college. What before had seemed dry historical facts evolved into the relevant, vivid history of humanity when I learned to contextualize and appreciate history as an earlier chapter in the world as I know it today. As a current, credentialed high school history teacher, with a master's degree in Middle Eastern studies from Tel Aviv Univ... [more]

If you were stranded on a deserted island, could you reinvent Algebra? Calculus? Trigonometry? I could! Not that that would be the most practical thing to do, but once you understand the basic concepts, you will be able to do the same. I am a strong believer in understanding concepts and knowing fundamentals, NOT in doing math by rote. I will certainly help you get your homework done and get better grades, but I will also make sure that you understand it! I teach students techniques... [more]

Algebra 2 often has students memorizing and regurgitating concepts they are not really taught to understand. My approach reduces Algebra 2 down to concepts the student already understands from Algebra 1, allowing them to gain a genuine understanding of the ideas. I have been using this method to great effect for many years. Many students who used to hate math now love it because it now makes sense to them. 11 years experience; I've been tutoring since I was 18. Valedictorian St. Bonaventure High School. I started teaching algebra in 1990 as a new high school math teacher, then moved over to teach physics, chemistry and the rest of the sciences. I retired after teacher for 15 years. I had been an engineer for 10 years before moving into teaching, and I used that foundation to infuse math into every one of my classes. I drilled all my chemistry and physics students on their use of algebra, geometry and trig, and we did it by hand first, and then on a calculator. Graphing is a great way to visualize what the data shows and is something that can help students visualize what is happening with t [more]
