While getting my Masters in applied mathematics, I worked as a TA where I taught 2 sections of Calculus 3 and one section of Calculus 1. Hey I'm John! Growing up with teachers for parents, I have had a lifelong love of teaching and especially teaching math. When given the opportunities to teach math classes and take a job as a science tutor in college, I jumped at the chances. Once I finished with my bachelors in applied mathematics (and minor in chemistry) I spent a year teaching at a small high school in Albuquerque, NM before deciding to return to school to pursue a graduate degree in math. I got a BS in Mathematics from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in 1991. After teaching high school for three years in El Paso, Texas, and teaching middle school math in Belen, New Mexico, I returned to New Mexico Tech to obtain my Master's Degree in Mathematics. I taught at the Valencia branch college of the University of New Mexico for approximately five years. I taught all levels of algebra, Calculus, and discrete math. After retiring, I have tutored in my home - mostl... [more]

Two Engineering degrees I have been practicing as a teacher/tutor for a combined 9 years. I first tutored peers in middle school and high school in subjects of math and science. In my Mechanical Engineering degree I continued by peer tutoring my engineering colleagues and a teaching assistant-ship I held. During my Master's degree I fine tuned my abilities by teaching/tutoring my colleagues, and siblings on their subjects in high school. I have a flexible schedule and can re-adjust for tutoring sessions as my studen... [more]

I took Calculus I, Math 162, my first semester of my freshmen year at UNM. I got an A in the class. Then I took Calculus II, Math 163, the following semester, and got an A. Moreover, I got an A in Calculus III, when taking it my third semester. Over the years, I have tutored many students in math and science. I have learned how to make a sometimes complex subject into something fun & simple. Since I made the decision to learn the math, I have excelled in the subject ever since. This resulted in my peers and family asking me for help in math & science for over 25 years. During my undergradua [more]

Aero/Astro Engineering BS and Systems Engineering MS required Calc 3, Advanced Calc, and Diff Eq. Application of these math areas was more valuable than the math classes themselves. Using the math provides greater understanding and skill development. I currently teach advanced rocketry and electronics, both of which offer great applications for calculus. Do you want to learn the subject or just get it over with? I can help with both. Let exploration and creativity inspire a passion for education. I can make math and science come alive for you. Bring back the joy to education. Tutorin [more]
