I'm a retired engineer and math teacher with a love for teaching anyone who wants to learn. As an engineer, I regularly used all levels of math (from arithmetic through calculus), statistics, and physics. I hold a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in math and physics (I taught high school math from pre-algebra to geometry).... [more]

Everyone can learn Calculus. It?s a great tool and a big confidence booster when you can master this subject. The concepts behind Calculus are actually simple and few in number. But they are often introduced in ways that seem complex and confusing. I will help explain the concepts and terms in simple English and with everyday examples. I have been tutoring all levels of Math for the past 10 years, from Algebra through college Calculus. I believe that establishing a good foundation in Mathematics is critical for a student?s future success and confidence ? in high school, in college and beyo [more]

My name is Omar K. and I am a current Computer Science student at UC Berkeley. What I like about Computer Science is that the community is absolutely great: most people are eager to learn and even more people are eager to help others understand. This resonates with my personality because I've always loved to help people in subjects I'm passionate in: whether it's math or science, it makes me happy to help others understand tricky subjects. In college, I am part of a club called Berkeley Engin... [more]

I have a MSc in Physics and my research experience is in astrophysics. Spanish is my native language. I started tutoring since I was in third year in college, my dad (who's also a physicist) worked as a teacher for 40 years so I guess I inherited his passion for teaching. The first student I had, a middle school student, who used to fail math every year, and then his mom contacted me and we started working together, by the end of the year he was one of the best students of his class and now h... I have over 15 years of experience as a technical writer and over 8 years as a tutor in math, computer science and engineering. As a writer, I know that clear, concise explanations are critical for learning. As a tutor, I make sure my explanations are not only clear and concise, but are presented in a step-by-step fashion that the student can easily understand and follow. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University and a CSET credential for Geomer... [more]

In Newton's efforts to understand the physical world, he invented calculus as a means of describing it. From the arc of a baseball as it soars into the stands to motion of planets as they move through our solar system, most everything that is tangible to us speaks the language of calculus. As a PhD in physics, I have studied this area of math for 15 years. I use my knowledge as a scientist to provide context for more abstract forms of math - something I have found really helps my students to visualize and understand the subject material. [more]

I received my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I took one year of Calculus and one year of Advanced Calculus. The main concepts are: limit, derivative and integral. They are fundamental concepts and interrelated. Several of my clients have needed assistance with learning calculus. I have found working problems side-by-side to be most helpful. A good tutor aids a student in acquiring skill. Through the successful solving of problems, fluency is gradually developed along with confidence. I often share my personal learning in how to study to encourage new habits. My overarching aim is [more]
