I have taught High School chemistry for 10 years now. I have taught all levels, from on-grade to Pre-AP and AP Chemistry. I have been a high school Chemistry teacher for 15 years now and really enjoy seeing students succeed at a subject that most students find really difficult. I believe that with effort from the student and support from a good instructor every student can be successful. My best success story is a student that I started tutoring when she was a high C level student and by the end of the year she was awarded her classroom teacher's award for best student of the year!!! My passion for teaching began during my undergraduate years at University of Nebraska - Lincoln after tutoring dorm-mates and participating in the university?s approved teaching internship where I taught AP calculus and AP physics at two Lincoln high schools: Pius X and Parkview, on a prearranged, alternate basis, with a permanent S.T.E.M. faculty member (100+ verifiable hours). I received my Bachelor?s degree in physics with a minor in mathematics (Class of 2013) which includes algebra thro... [more]

I am teaching chemistry right now at the high school level and have two years experience teaching it, as well as a year of tutoring. I have 22 years of experience teaching high school science courses, and several semesters of teaching anatomy and physiology in community college. In my 14 years of teaching AP Biology, and my three years of teaching AP Environmental Science, my students' pass rates were well above the national average. I loved school as a student, and was very fortunate to have wonderful teachers that got me interested in science and made me want to get my students to like it [more]

I had a minor in chemistry requiring courses in general chemistry, analytical chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry. I work in healthcare teaching people about their health every day. I love working with people and teaching them new things. While I mostly work with teens and adults now, I have worked with students of all ages. I taught group and private swim lessons for many years and transferred those skills to the academic world when I began tutoring in college. Even now I regularly help my younger brother with his high-school assignments. I earned by bachelor's degree in Biolog [more]

Doing well in general chemistry is largely about knowing how to use the periodic table. However, early on there are other aspects of the class that depend solely on rote memorization, such as the formulas and charges of the common polyatomic ions, and basic formulas for things such as pH and molarity. A little math is involved when it comes to stoichiometry, but generally if a student can keep the big picture in mind, the mathematical steps are pretty simple. As a tutor, I strive to keep these different aspects of the class clear, and to help students keep the underlying picture in mind when w [more]
