I have intensively tutored several students who were preparing for the COOP and HSPT exams. They all got accepted to the schools of their choice. I particularly enjoy motivating younger students to reach their peak performance levels with English Language Arts-related skills including reading comprehension, vocabulary building, and essay writing. Sometimes this takes the form of gently encouraging students to concentrate harder. Other times, students who are overachievers need to be reminded that their best is truly good enough. In addition, I also help students with other aspects of their app [more]

I have prepared students for the TACHS, SHSAT,COOP,and HSPT and scored in the 99th percentile in the COOP and HSPT myself. Using my background in Latin, I help students break vocabulary words into their bases. Math is usually the most difficult area, so I spend the most time here and stress estimations and proportions. Students usually see how verbal proportions are analogies. I focus on the common ideas in Grammar and Reading Comprehension and use paper cutouts to elucidate the tricky "Abilities" section of the TACHS. I use expected value and other mathematical techniques to teach optimal str [more]

In the course of my 20 plus years of teaching and tutoring, I have been called upon numerous times to train students who are going to take either the COOP or the HSPT tests in order to pass an entrance test into the Catholic or other Parochial Schools as an alternative to the Public or non-religious Private Schools. Using a current exam practice book, I have tutored these students in all of the areas of these tests. Of the 10 or more students that I have tutored in this manner, ALL of them scored high enough to earn their way into an appropriate religious school. I am very familiar with the [more]

I tutor for all sections of the COOP. I am very experienced with this test and can show you how to work it to get a top score. The reading section is very straightforward. However, some of the analogies and synonyms can be challenging. I show you how to navigate this test and think about the words and their relationships. I can help with the math section too. Even if you haven't learned all the math for the test, I can show you how you can still do well on the test. If necessary, I can teach you the math you need, even if you haven't learned it in school or just plain don't remember. [more]

My 7 years of middle school teaching experience has prepared me to prepare students for the rigors of any standardized test. I know a wide variety of test taking strategies and the best way to share those with students. In addition, I teach a weekly class to 7th and 8th grade private school students to prepare them for the HSPT, coaching them through various practice tests and the actual HSPT. I'm a career changer--from publishing to middle school teacher--and the idea to become a teacher came to me after my experience of volunteer tutoring. From my first day at the center, I loved the persona [more]

I have taught the COOP exam to an 8th grade class, and have tutored the SHSAT individually. My plans for both tests are to review answers to questions thoroughly, even explaining why other answers may be wrong, when appropriate. I also discuss strategies for taking the exam, which I sometimes find almost as important as knowing the material. I am a very patient Math tutor who is dedicated to improving my student's skills. I tutor Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Trigonometry and Geometry. I have tutored for 21 years. I tutor Math Regents Exams, GED Math, SAT Math, and the Catholic High S [more]
