I took a class in discrete applied mathematics at M.I.T. I took a class in number theory. I also took a class in combinatorics. I taught myself probability and passed the actuarial probability exam. (I had the deeper theoretical background of measure theory, and simply coupled it with the combinatorics.) I studied mathematics at M.I.T. for many years. I came to Georgia to get a doctorate in philosophy. I have been teaching and tutoring for a decade at various colleges, including Athens Technical College, University of Georgia, Piedmont College, and the University of South Carolina, Upstate. [more]

I have a bachelor's and master's degree in mathematics and have studied various discrete topics, including, set theory, logic, probability and combinatorics, topology, group theory, and number theory. I have been a mathematics teacher, mostly in the New York City public school system at the high school level. I am also bilingual and taught HS mathematics in Honduras, Central America for 2 years. I recently moved down to the Hendersonville area and have been debating whether to get my North Carolina teaching certificate. I took Discrete Math when I was in college. I think this is the easiest college math course I know. I received an A in college, and I was close to perfection. I have tutored Discrete Math to local students for over 15 years. As a student, I was gifted in math. I went through school rarely scoring anything lower than a 95 in math courses. I routinely tested in the 99 percentile on standardized test, and as a 6th grader test showed I was already beyond the 11th grade level. I finished several college math courses with a 105 average. I started tutoring math in January of 2001. I have math tutorin [more]

While tutoring in the math lab at the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB), I tutored at least one student (taking the course) every week. I've worked in the math lab for several years. I am a PhD graduate of the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB). I've been teaching and tutoring mathematics for over 10 years. My strongest personal characteristics in tutoring are that I'm good with children and adults with anxiety or attention deficit disorder, patient with the student, and encouraging. There are objectives that I have when tutoring the student: explaining the material so that the studen [more]

My educational background is in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education. I have taken all tests to be certified in these areas. I would love the tutoring opportunity to help students improve their grades in basic math. I have been trying to keep working with students in grades second through fifth when tutoring. I have tutored students ages five through eleven years old in reading, math, and language, vocabulary, and phonics. Before starting my tutoring job with WyzAnt, I was a Speech-Language Teacher, with experience tutoring after school hours. I was a Bright Futures Tutor [more]

My internship through UNCW has placed me in many different classes, including discrete math. It was my first experience with discrete math but I was able to create and teach lesson plans after working with the teacher during planning. After my experience in the two blocks of this course I am now comfortable with discrete math and have many activities and resources for this course. I graduated from UNCW with my B.A. in mathematics. I am using this degree to obtain a position as a high school math teacher. I have been employed by New Hanover County Schools for over three years as well as private [more]
