In college I extensively studied mathematical proof and set theory, and have also succeeded in courses on combinatorics and probability. I am a Naperville North High School and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign graduate with a degree in Mathematics. I have extensive problem-solving experience including winning 1st place at the 2007 ICTM State Math Contest, qualifying for the USA Math Olympiad, and placing in the top 500 in the national Putnam competition. My tutoring methods vary student-by-student, but I specialize in breaking down problems and asking questions to guide the student to [more]

As an undergraduate student at CU Boulder, I got an A in Discrete Math. In addition to this course, I also took Statistics and probability which involve a lot of discrete mathematics. In high school I loved science, math, debate and music; I studied Applied Mathematics in college. I just finished my Masters and I'm gearing up to start a PhD in fall '17. For the year, I am tutoring full time to pay down student loans, and because I love the work. I tutored privately in high school. As an undergraduate, I tutored for CU's Student Academic Services programs as well as taking courses with the [more]

I have a PhD in pure mathematics and can manage teaching discrete math courses. I have a PhD in Mathematics from Colorado State University in 2013. I have 5+ years experience teaching and tutoring undergraduate level math courses. I am available to tutor in a variety of math courses for grades 6 and up and also college level courses including algebra, calculus, discrete math, math for social sciences, probability and statistics. I can also help with SAT test preparation for math levels 1 and 2. I am passionate about teaching and have a never-give-up attitude. My experie... [more]

PhD in Electrical Engineering HW Engineer at Qualcomm Adjunct Faculty at San Jose State University Lectured Advanced Engineering Mathematics, Vector Analysis, Matrix and Linear Algebra. I started working with Wyzant just recently. However, I have more than 20 years experience teaching Physics and Math to high school students and undergraduate university students. The best I can highlight about my teaching style is my successful record in creating interest in my students to learn and understand Math and Physics. Ask my help and use my experience if you may want to discover the joy of learning M [more]

I have finished a math degree in CSU, Sacramento in 2001 with honors reward. I am an experienced math teacher of high school. I have taught all the math subjects in high school including algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2, trig/ precalculus, AP calculus AB, BC and AP statistics. I am willing to help students catch up from the basic math skills to advanced learning. One-on-one tutoring or working in small group, I have all the different kinds of lesson plans and push my students learn logical critical thinking skills. My goal is to help kids enjoy math and love math. ... [more]

I began tutoring discrete math privately four years ago, drawing on my background as a UCLA math major. I have been enjoying using all my years of experience in probability, statistics, and other math tutoring to help students in discrete math succeed in this challenging course. Even excellent math students often find themselves stretched to capacity in this highly diverse and sometimes exotic branch of mathematics. One of my greatest fulfillments has been to see failing students restored to passing grades! [more]

Discrete Math can be one of the most challenging of undergrad math courses. It is reminiscent of geometry, in that it has a main focus of "why", rather than the "what and where" of algebra and calculus. The symbolic language of Discrete Math is usually a bit challenging for most students. Upside down E's and A's can be confusing...Always....Sometimes... Getting to the details of each statement and it's composite statement of undeniable conclusion, can take more creativity than writing music or literature. Understanding in this course helps one define truth in other non-numerical topics as w [more]

I have taken a variety of Undergrad math courses including Discrete Math. Discrete is an interesting course that brings in probability, proof writing, logic, and number theory among other topics. I can help students to improve their understanding of how to write proofs, apply counting strategies, follow logic to reach conclusions, work with the Chinese Remainder Theorem, Fermat's Little Theorem, modular arithmetic, etc. I am currently in the Cal Teach Credential Program at UC Berkeley and am a High School Math Teacher. I have taken discrete mathematics as an undergraduate at the United States Naval Academy and received an 'A' in the course. Discrete Mathematics is the foundation for many of the following high-level Computer Science courses I have taken as an undergraduate, so I routinely referenced my notes from Discrete Math. I assisted many of my classmates with the course both while I took it and once I had completed the course. I tutor because I enjoy seeing my students excel in subjects they have previously struggled with. I have found that more rewarding than gaining knowledge and earning good grade m [more]

I have taught Discrete Math (Math 42) during Fall 2008 at San Jose State U. Also, I have a Ph.D. in Math and my research area/Master Thesis is closely related to Discrete Math. Fall semester starts next week. Please contact me for your Math tutoring needs. Groups are welcome with discounts (about 25 percent per student for a group of two). Usually I can give a short preview meeting (15min) or phone conversation to explain how I can meet the need of your children (but only after you have registered with payment info by Wyzant's requirement). I have accommodated my students' need from HW to extr [more]
